Visiting Edinburgh... Things to do?
Hey everyone,
Well long story short, a lady friend and I are visiting Edinburgh next weekend but I'm stuck on things to do.
The problem is she's Scottish and as you'd imagine, she has probably seen and done everything there is to do.
Any idea's?
Cheers
Gav

If your referring to other things a male and female can get up to in a hotel room for the weekend...
A true gentleman never tells.
That aside, I don't want to assume that I'm going to be entertaining this young lady in a hotel room for the weekend, so I'd like at least entertain her interlectual side (god how ghey do I sound.)
Cheers

PMSL
There's loads to do in Edinburgh, it's probably the 2nd most touristey city in the UK. It ain't cheap though! What kind of thinks are you interested in? last time I went up there we visited the castle, the royal yacht Britannia, had a day just mooching 'round the city, went to Glasgow for the day and had a day driving 'round the countryside to the north.... Oh and to satisfy the engineer in me we had to go and look at the bridge... twice

We're keen to stay away from the touristy area's and looking at doing the Grassmarket, but that's more for drinks lol
She's visited everything there is to visit, as far as I am aware, apart from the Zoo.
It'd be nice to visit that bridge, it looks rather impressive in the dark (that's the UX part of me.)
Cheers mate!

Edinburgh castle, Arthurs seat, Camera Obscura, Edinburgh Museum.
Royal mile, theres a couple good pubs down the alleys sell good ales.
If you can drive towards Glasgow, New Lanark is worth a visit too.
Hours drive from Edinburgh to the North is St Andrews, a lovely town in the summer.

Edinburgh Zoo
Crammond Island - just don't get stuck there when the tide goes out!

Re: Visiting Edinburgh... Things to do?
We're looking at visiting the Grassmarket, as she mentioned it. Also, the Zoo given neither of us have actually been there before.
I fancy the island although, as you said, I don't fancy getting stuck and more importantly, the 406 isn't the best car to be wading through water.
Houses of Parliament? Not sure that'd interest either of us as we both hate politics.
Nothing wrong with going cheap, it's what you make of it that counts!
I don't mind spending a bit of money but at the same time, I don't want to go overboard. The weekend alone is costing a small fortune so I'd rather keep it interesting but cheap lol
It'd be nice to get a few local or not so local places to go to, for a nice drive. Any walking parks or similar that you know of?
Cheers

Re: Visiting Edinburgh... Things to do?
The museum is free (although there is a donation box if you like the exhibits) and is an interesting way of spending a few hours.
Exhibits from stone age, iron age, roman age, right up to 20th century communications.
As for parks - Arthurs seat and the park around it is right beside Holyrood parliament building, or Princes Street gardens is also gorgeous in the summer.
Edinburgh is a nice city to walk around, though you will feel like you are in an Escher drawing - always walking uphill!

Cheers Wiggum ;)
I've just realised that our hotel doesn't allow you to check in until 2pm so we need to kill a few hours before we settle in.
I'm sure we'll have fun either way ;) but given the weather is hit and miss, the museum seems canny. She's probably been there but this was about 10 year ago
Thanks again everyone!
