Bar a couple of drop links and bushes mine is running spot on. Being real, most of our cars on the forum are around 10 years old, show me a 10 year old car which doesn't need the odd bit of maintenance. I truely believe that any other marque would have the same problems after 10 years, probably more and certainly would be more expensive to fix :)

I'm saying nothing about mine at the moment.............

ah no, saying that, my sat nav packed in on the weekend. Scrap one being posted to me.

So I can safely say mine isn't without fault at the moment.

My car mechanically has no problems, all the electrics are spot on bar the battery which is the original and went flat when i left the lights on so not the cars fault, its been serviced so the engines going spot on, and its getting a set of new brakes on it because by the look of the disks its still the original ones on it. Peugeots are a reliable car, at least they were until the 07 models came out. As i look at it french cars are cheaper to own if you can only afford something over 10 years old (my car isnt this old) but say you want a 1998 306 diesel, its cheaper to own it than a +10 year old golf. Look on auto trader, select diesel and over 10 years old, there is more peugeots than volkswagens, there is nearly more old peugeot diesels than anything else.

I have two! (406's that is) :P

Last Monday I got up at 5am travelled 12 hours to North Yorkshire by National express (as it cost me only £20 (would have been £146 by train)) and got my self an older but 70,000 miles less new lump of metal called a 406lxtd 1.9.

So now I have two.

Both have two wheels at either end that move in a straight line and providing you stop on level ground will stay where you put them. However, (common fault with my 406's) if you stop on a hill they tend to be a little further away from where you were standing when you left them! I should state that the handbrake is fully applied on leaving them but I have discovered they like to rome off on their own sometimes. That's the reason I attached a caravan - it acted as a good old brake van should. :wink:

The new old one (R reg) seems to like flashing it's speedo at me until i thump the dash then it tells me i am doing 70 in a 30 mph when people walking are overtaking me. :shock:

Hey - these 406's are living animals no two days are the same. my previous one loved to blow it's brakes bulbs at least once a month so my glove box was always a store room for spare stop light bulbs. :idea:

Does any one know of a good garage near to Southampton where i can get the cam belt changed for a fair price? :roll:

Well I went down to the dealer with £500 in my pocket yesterday. Was driving down the A48 giving it some right foot and you wouldn't knwo theres anything wrong with the car. Was driving beutifully, used bugger all fuel, went well, handled well... was just generally a nice place to be. I offered my car plus £200 for this DTurbo at a dealers but I couldn't do it :( So I came back with my 406 :|

Unless you really really want to change your car (and I can understand at your age, I never had one longer than 12 months) then can't you hang on a bit? you've just spent a fair bit on yours I think and it'd be a shame for some other person to get all the benefit and none of the pain :|

I mean this in the nicest possible way, 'kin man up and do it yourself.

Your mindset of "it involves opening the bonnet so it must be really complex" is going to make you throw away a good car.

It's probably ONE bloody o-ring that needs changing, i've given you links and photo guides of what needs doing, if you can't be bothered to fix your car, it's your tough luck, stop bitching that the "repairs are expensive", they aren't. Paying some bugger else to do a piece of piss job is expensive.

In all fairness if it were a simple case of removing the throttle arm and changing the O ring then fair enough. I refuse to take the pump off though cause knowing me I'd knock the timing out or something.

You put two bolts into the pump pulley and it's locked in place, you can't put the timing out by taking the pump off.
