Peugeot Diesel in Suzuki

Post by FarmerPug »

I have a Suzuki Samurai, its petrol and for round the farm petrols just too expensive mainly because there is no such thing as red petrol, what peugeot Diesel is it that can be fitted into the Suzuki, because there is a Citroen ax 1.5D and 405 1.9D, and a d8 406 1.9 with a blown head gasket, available at an uncles house who doesnt believe in scrapping cars, what one would fit best and is there much work at the clutch or gearbox for work like this.
This is the engine it has at the moment the 1.3 a tough engine but too sore on fuel:

Id hope with a diesel engine it wouldnt run out when needed most:

I know the 1.9 pug units fit (pretty common swap), dunno about the 1.5 though. You'd be better off having a look on www.suzuki4x4club.com or www.difflock.com

XUD 1.9 (turbo or non) matched up to an LDV Pilot gearbox, then hang the suzuki x-fer box on the back of that.

LDV pilot that sounds interesting, is its gearbox the only suitable one or can the peugeot engine sit straight onto the suzuki gearbox

The 1.9 XUD was used in non-turbo form in the Pilot van so you're just bringing everything over rather than making a mix and match.

No sure about fitting the 1.9 lump to the standard sammy/sj box, got a feeling it would probably eat the internals, and also the ratios would be totally wrong for a diesel engine, you'd be reving to 4k instead of 6k, lose most of the top end.

So its best then to mount the ldv's gearbox onto the sammies transfer box, that sounds easier, no clutch to muck about at, what about the gear lever is it a case of just slotting into the old whole where the last gearstick was, or does a new one need cut. Have you put the ldv engine in your samurai?

I think the Pilot gearstick needs a bit of a cut out on the tunnel.

I was 95% done with my engine & box swap, then we moved house and our rent DOUBLED (went from a 2 bed flat to a 4 bed house with big gardens), so i ended up flogging off all the shiney bits i'd spent 18 months getting together. Now i just need to put the bugger back together!

The yellow peril will ride again!

Nice jeep there the metal grille ones look better i think, good tyres. Ill have a look through ebay, gumtree and the local papers for a pilot, with scrap the value it is it shouldnt cost too much to buy a pilot

back again on this topic because the suzuki forum is useless (there is no one there) anyhow i have pulled out the suzukis engine will the ldv engine sit into the existing engine mounts, and will the transmission tunnel need a bit of cutting?
