Hi ...
Just trying to get an idea of value of my dads car for him as i have seen various different valuations..
Car is a 2000 x reg 406 saloon midnght blue.. V6 executive with all the leather, heated seat, computer, towbar.
It has 12months MOT and around 50k on the clock

I had my heart set on a v6 when shopping about at the time of buying mine, insurance was about 5g for one, compared to 1g on a diseasel thats just down to my personal circumstances when getting insurance of course. But the price of the v6 was around £1500 when shopping about which at the time sounded good because an LPG kit which is essential on a v6 would have been another £1600. But anyhow heres the what car valuation for a 2001 v6, it wouldnt bring up a 2000 but it gives you an idea:

My immaculate 1998 V6 exec went for about £600 about 18 months ago.
That's news to me! I can easily manage 45-50mpg on a long run in mine...406executiveHDI wrote: an LPG kit which is essential on a v6

wow, 50mpg in a v6, my diesel doesnt even do that yet im trying to drive economically but its just something i dont do, but even if your v6 is doing that mpg an lpg kit is a great thing to add on because as petrol and diesel prices rise up and up you can be snug in the fact the lpg is cheap, and even cheaper from hen farmers, a relative has a chrysler voyager v6 which is a bit of a guzzler but because its running on the lpg it beats the economy of the derv voyager

Well my record is 808 miles to a tank. That's with a fully loaded car.... Not many diseasels can match that, and if I were using LPG I'd have had to a) leave luggage and b) fill up about 20 times
I reckon I could do 1000 miles easily if I put my mind to it, but I've not had to do a run that long in one sitting yet 
I admit LPG can be handy in a V6, especially with urban driving, but you've got to get the engine up to temperature first, and the ES9J4 literally throws fuel away (dumps it through the engine on over-run to heat the cat) for the first 15 minutes or so you're driving it until it warms up.
V6 406s though, are worth it! The only reason I have my Golf TDI is because my trip to work is only about 6 miles so it'd be detrimental to the V6 to subject it to the pain of always being driven cold. A trip of any sort of distance though, and it's the V6 coupé every time. Such a refined experience. So quiet and smooth compared to the German paint can shaker. And of course, unlike a diesel, the V6 can *SING*

Your poor old golf must be depressed having to do that daily slog at the hands of its couldn't-care-less owner and then it has to sit out in the cold and rain whilst it's prettier car mate gets the garage and all the 'nice' runs
If I was your golf I would spit the cambelt out on a busy rainy roundabout in rush hour

bought for £2500, easily get that back despite 181k on the clock if I were to sell it due to it being a top trim level TDI with leather and all the toys
Probably worth a lot more if I could be bothered to sort out the paintwork...
Still nothing that compares to it though. Maybe I should sell it and get a chop shop to convert a 406 exec diesel estate into a small hatch with the proceeds

My uncle almost spent £4500 the other day on an 04 tdi golf with 90k on the clock, and the tool that sold it to him said that it was the final edition model with a few bells and whistles, i was with my uncle when buying the car and i just had to say to the seller "since when does a car with all the bells and whistles not come with central locking, electirc windows, electric mirrors, air conditioning or a trip computer?" that silenced him, so my uncle got the car for £4100. But even so its quite expensive, my 406 executive with all the toys cost £2500 from a dealer at 88k miles, and if i went private i could have got it much cheaper, the price hike for the golf really is amazing.
