youve got a chip, and the members here who know their stuff dont recommend them (i dont know my stuff) apparently they fool the cars ecu into overfuelling or something which apparently is bad. A remap is essentially reprogramming the cars ecu ie the bit that controls how much diesel comes in at specific revs this program is called a map hence remap.

Yes, they basically electronically reprogram the ECU (the engine management computer) and changes various parameters, the net result of which is a greater power output (higher HP rating) and increased pulling power (higher torque rating). If done properly, it is also possible for the remap to cause the engine to be more fuel-efficient.

There are various tuning boxes which fit between the ECU and the engine, and are designed to change the air pressure from the turbo and the amount of fuel being burned by the engine to create more power. However, the main drawback behind this is that the tuning box is not privy to the same sensor inputs as the ECU gets - so it is a less effective tool, and will probably just cause the engine to constantly burn more fuel - it's true that this will increase the overall power of the engine, but it will cause fuel consumption to go up for the most part, and the engine will probably end up registering anti-pollution faults more often.

Furthermore, VOSA have confirmed that the next revision of the MOT will make cars fitted with these after-market "piggy-back" tuning boxes an automatic fail. Remapping the engine ECU is invisible to MOT testers, and VOSA will not be able to outlaw these as they are pretty much impossible to check for.

I'd get shot of the tuning box and get the car professionally remapped instead. The best part about getting a custom remap done on your car is that you can have it customized to your driving style. If you do a lot of towing, be sure to tell your remapper because they can change the parameters in such a way as to help towcars.

yip an eco remap £250 you get 136 bhp and apparently your fuel consumption drops. And if you dont like it they remove it for free, and give you a refund.

"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.
