Tank slapper-o-rama

Post by Blue406 »

Woah....Did I not half get a rude awakening this morning

Traveling to work on the motorway I reach my exit to connect to another motorway, a lazy sweeping left hand bend going up hill.
The roads are clear, plenty of grip thus far, dry too.
I'm doing around 60mph around this bend having just past 70 limit signs. Car in front is crawling so I merge smoothly to the outside lane, still going round the bend.
As I get level with the slower car all hell breaks loose. My back end stepped out to the right and in big fashion. I just managed to catch the slide and correct it but the back end then swung over to the left.
Again I corrected but she swung right again. At this point I collected my thoughts and pushed the accelerator to the floor. That did it, all sorted.

My two passengers were speechless with fear.
I'm just glad that I didn't panic and hit the brakes like I've seen others do!
Got awfully close to the car I was overtaking, but didn't hit. Not sure what they would make of the situation! 8)

Seems someone behind me wasn't so lucky. 30 minutes later, as I recalled the story to a workmate, they told me they had heard on the radio that an accident had just been reported at that exact spot and has closed the road. :supafrisk:

I heard on Radio 2 travel news this morning about a spate of accidents in Scotland this morning (Ice?).

Glad you caught the swaying coupe mate - I think even I would have shed a tear if you'd had so much have scratched the thing

You must have had the car held in a kinda neutral state neither braking or accelerating when it started to let go.

I hesitated with the throttle due to being so close to the car beside me, but as it situation deteriorated it was a "now or never" moment. Throttled it, cleared the tank slapper and avoided the other car. Win!

Good job, I like success stories :D I drove on a couple of side roads this morning on the way to work which had really bad black ice. The rear of my 106 stepped out at one stage but I was only going slow so it was more fun than fear

today was another day with the nissan, had to take it today as it needed something mechanical done to it, while the pug was used by my da. Them primeras are a bloody deathtrap, not only is the lifeless steering bad for general enjoyment but because your driving by eye and not by feel as in the 406 when it slides its sliding properly, i went round a corner at 15mph because of the ice and still the car went wide.
