what would happen if i just put the disc in the laptop??
it probably wont work as highlander said last week, they are not transferabe from machine to machine

but there is a way round it ,,, you tell microsoft your hard drive bust and you need to re-install it , they should give you a key that will work with the install on another computer

i think thats how it works

for the benefit of anyone who will ever install xp sp1 onto a mac running bootcamp here is the instructions the seller gave me when i described the problem:
1. Click Start ? Run ? Type ?regedit? and press enter.

2. Navigate to

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\Software
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Setup

3. In the right pane, Right-click and select New ? String value

4. Name it as ?BootDir? and set its value to ?C:\?

Close registry and retart PC.
[Add all without quotes]

and it worked, once on sp2 i could download all the macs drivers for the windows side so the internet was available trough the internal wifi card, as well as all the other stuff like the macs mouse, it has no second click so having the driver on it for windows to do the left click with 2 fingers on the trackpad (a mac gesture for the left click) means a lot of things now can be done.

But Xp is installed on the laptop now, but in order for it to gain control of most of the laptops features like the built in wifi it needs me to put in a cd supplied by apple to give it the drivers, but this cd needs service pack 2. But i cant get online because i havent got the driver for the modem which needs service pack 2, and without the internet i cant activate it.
There used to be a disc for mac, it was called a Insignia disk iirc,
it allowed you too run 2 operating systems at once on a Mac,

if this was still available you couid switch two and thro and just Download what you needed,
As of The Activation thing , you can Download A programe what will sort that
