I spent over £600 on my Pug last year on MOT, cambelt, aux belt etc. Paid £1400 for the car. All in it probably owes me nearly £2500 now, but look in any trade book & I'd probably get less than £1000 back, even with the 7 seats & low mileage (85k on a 2000/X), but I could have spent £5000 (as I was looking at that figure on other cars) & still need to pay out on the same stuff.

It's all relative really. You really need to look at how much you'd spend replacing it, how reliable would that be & your own personal considerations. For me, I'd struggle to find another diesel 7 seater with similar mileage in reasonable condition.

I would have done the same thing in scrapping it and I am amazed that the scrappies gave you £300.00  - I though it worked the other way.

They'll probably fix it up for peanuts and have one of their scally-wags drive it for a few months :|

The engine was burning oil on LPG so wasn't long for this world anyway - in fact I'm surprised it ever passed an emissions test.

I'd only ever rescue a pristine car, the engine and other bits can be replaced fairly easily but if the Tin Worm's set in then it's a slippery slope for sure.
