Pug 306

Post by Automan »

Hi, I've just been offered an 'N' Reg Pug 306 XT automatic, only 51000 miles. Anything to look out for that any of you know of? Thanks.

take a look at this viewtopic.php?f=5&t=13164
d9 hdi 90 rapier estate

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

i had one for a while mate .... may she R.i.p bless her lol, :(
theyre a reliable little motor,
the only probs ihad with mine was : ignition barrel went fauly,
:Handbrake cables sagging at the rear /common problem ithink,
:front brake caliper problems sticking ,
:centre part of the Exhaust where they join too the front part are weak,

other- than that she was a good motor and never failed to start,
she ended up in a Cube after taking a Landrover up the rear end, theyre a strong motor

theres the odd good one here, but take a look on gumtree belfast for a peugeot 306 and see the amount of rough stuff there is, then for comparison purposes look at gumtree london.

eg over here in ni £1500 gets you an overvalued, badly modified (if a cars been lowered until the rear wheel is hidden its definatley not good) thing which will most likely no longer work like a proper car should.

wheras after a look on gumtree london:

a nice sensible 306 estate, in standard condition with nice bodywork, good spec (not bull about saxophone springs,2 nics, quarter turns and Hdi side skirts), and even better its from a dealer so you get a warranty.

but of course we do occasionally have the odd good car:

Irember my mate taking a car to ireland,
as an old chap said it was cheaper too get a good car from england rather than ireland,
He put a mot on the car and took it too ireland,

the car was 6 years old nice clean motor,
he later found out the English mot was a waste of time and the car was needing tooo be re:registerd and motd in ireland,

The car was Deemed Fubard by the mot inspector in ireland and All the brake pipes had failed

He had to give the old man his money back and go fetch the car,

He couid of Ripped the old man off and told him no waranty blah de blah but he did the honest thing and sorted the old man out,

the car was fine in England :frown:

Funnily enough, on English plates.

Must have been Southern Ireland. Their MOT (or NCT) lasts for 2 years though so it has to be more thorough. Does make you wonder though, when it can pass an MOT over here...

the south is quite strict about cars, their taxation system works on engine size and not on co2 output, unless the car is newer than 2006.

Didn't go for that one, went for a 2000 one in Inverness instead. Only £150 more than the N reg one with two new tyres and tidy alloys as well. Clean little car, 1.6 automatic (the missus only has an auto licence) It drives well the gearbox is smooth, cd player works and it is really quick off the mark. Had a nice 100 mile drive home in it last night and never a hint of a problem.
Poor old 406 is off to the breaker's yard tomorrow, :( I'll be sad to see her go. One of the best cars I have ever had in years.

The ABS light was on for the last ten months and the sills were rotted through beside the seatbelt anchor points. It got shredded within an hour of arriving at the breakers yesterday, I went back to get something out of it and it was gone. Had a little lump in my throat as I walked away and left it to it's fate. Silly I know, but I grew attached to it since the day we got it.
Don't know if it was a d9 or what, it was just a P reg 2 litre auto to me.
