Light bulbs (G24Q-?)

Post by rwb »

OK, completely off topic, but searching the Internet has turned up nothing and I don't know who else to ask!

I moved into a new flat. (The letting agent was not passing my rent on to the landlord who, in turn was not paying the mortgage, and bailiffs started turning up...)

(You may have been enjoying my absence from the site: BT do not deign to connect the telephone until March.)

Anyway, the new flat is a new build and it has strange light fittings called G24Q-2: where the f*k do you get bulbs for them? Certainly no supermarket or DIY store in Basingstoke.

The bulbs fitted are 18W which are far too bright. Infuriatingly I bought a 10W bulb but it turned out to be G24Q-1 which has subtly different keying. (Diagram here.)
See the different keying systems in Figs 3, 4, 5.

Why the different keying? I.e., why must a G24Q-1 bulb not be inserted into a G24Q-2 socket? (What if I just file the key tabs off my G24Q-1 bulb?)

The bastard thing cost £5 too. Its 20p for a normal bulb in Tesco.
Whose stupid idea were these non-standard fittings?
I'm in half a mind to cut the bloody things off and fit normal bayonet fittings.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

I put g24q-2 in google image search and they seem to all be cfl - some sort of idea to make sure you only use cfls?

Feck knows, never seen anything like it in my life :frown: You can't use one of the old bulbs, break off the glass (breathing in all those lovely mercury vapours), solder on a couple of leads and fit a pwoppa bulb on the end of it? I wonder if you can still get 300 watt ones...
