Grand to Spend on me 406, what should I do??

Post by GeordieBoy »

By end of next week hopefully I should have about a grand or so to spend on my 406, so what should I do to it?

Def gonna get the 100mph problem sorted, then thinking of:
ECU Remap
Induction Kit
DVD Player Head Unit
Lowering 40mm
Exhaust Backbox and poss De-Cat

Owt else you think I should do? Even thinking of selling it and buying an Evo, Scooby or XR4x4 2.9 v6 then get it twin turbo'd. :)

Buy an EVO or Scooby for around £4K and shortly after you will be spending another £2K on putting right all of it's problems, as these cars get older, they chage hands more and owners overlook changing fluids in the diffs, gearboxes, transfer boxes, yaw control fluids, etc etc all of which are vital on these cars, also the suspension bushes wear and spoil the drive if you don't sort them and this is expensive.

An old XR4x4 might seem a bit of a laugh but the chassis, brakes and running gear are all old Ford Crap and the whole thing will be a constant nightmare, not to mention the engine, which is crap.

Geordie, I think you would be better buying something else, you see I get the impression you like sport/different cars and I honestly think that if you go too far with the 406 you could almost ruin it (value wise).

If you don't really do many miles a year and you haven't got family to cart around then you could be happier I think with something like:

An older Honda VTEC (one of the Civic's say, or even a rare CRX)
An old Toyota Celica (there's some interesting models but not the 4WD Turbo, big bills)
A Nissan 200SX (try to get one not too molested)
A cherrished Escort RS Turbo (I think these will be classics and I secretly want one myself)
A BMW 325i (the twin headlight G/H reg one but find a cherrished one)

Any of these would be decent IMO and you will have some change left for the odd thing or two you need doing.

Not really into sports cars, I like the 406 as it is, but would of course like a bit more power without losing too much MPG. MPG is why I bought the car, I also prefer to drive big cars as apposed to little uns. Only thing sporty I'll be doing in the 406 is taking it to Nurburgring next year where I hope to do 10-20 laps in a weekend. I'll prob do Croft or another track to make sure I have the right feel for it.

if i had the money i would buy a toy which would need two specifics

1.rear wheel drive(loadsafun)

2. as big an engine as possible(see above for reason)

other than that the list is pretty long

mark 1 or 2 escort

old style toyota starlet 1600cc rear wheel drive in a car the size of a micra

old granada (bit big but a v6 engine very easy to increase performance)

cortina (enuff said i think)

the list is endless really come on boys whats your favorites :cheesy: :cheesy:
