Painting Alloy Wheels

Post by CountryPug »

Any advice guys?

I picked up a set of Saxo VTR alloys from the local scrappy for my 106. Three of them are in decent shape but one has bubbled under the paint quite a bit. I thought about getting it refurbed by a pro but I reckon it'd outshine the other 3 wheels. Also, I'm not willing to fork out the doe. A friend of mine resprayed a set of 306 Tornado wheels recently and they turned out quite well, not perfectly smooth but you could live with them. Thinking of going for that ford anthracite colour, should look good against my silver 106.

Anyway, my questions: Will this be a pain in the arse to get right? How many coats of primmer/paint/lacquer should I be using? How long between coats? Whats the best/quickest way of sanding them down before primmer?

Any advice greatly appreciated :D

you should get it sand blasted if its that bad mate then use high build primer rubbing down between coats until you you get a flat finish to put your top coat on. :)

Cheers pal, really don't want them to look hashy, seen a few DIY jobs before and they end up spoiling the car if not done to a decent standard.

Get the full set done - don't kerb them, and you can flog them off at a later date for as much as you paid!

A nice "shadowchrome" or anthracite would look good on the 106 : )
