Hi all been offered a petrol 406 2.0 engine code rfr (silver top) know all about the hdi foibles but what are the petrols like thanks in advance

had a blast about in one for a week before i stripped it found it quite nippy compared to my 2,1 d

The petrols can be really reliable and long lived. Mileages of 250k being possible.

Thanks thats a relief as i have just bought one. only had the diesels before and just bought a low mileage exec im really pleased with it just didnt really do my home work on the petrols.

If you keep up with cambelt changes and don't do any modifications, the 406 petrol engines will generally out-live the rest of the car with ease

I had the 1.8 16v PSA petrol engine in a Xantia. Was more reliable, dare I say, than the HDi.
Fuel economy was upper 30s around town. Seemed nippy enough for 110bhp, the 2.0 would be more so.
Only thing I found was that on changing gear, the return to idle was a bit slow, so led sometimes to jerky gearchanges as you were putting the accelerator back on and it was already at 2000rpm or so.
