Smugness has evaporated

Post by DiscoPol »

Hi guys as you may or may not know later this week i pick up my new C5 and i am very happy about this indeed, but, i have been sorting boring things like insurance, parking, recovery assistance, etc etc etc this week and got my final price through on the insurance cover,

now it is fully comp as its quite a valuable car at this stage of its life and i have everything included such as breakdown recovery, replacement vehicle, glass and contents cover so on and so on, now as its over a year since i left blighty i have no way of carrying my previous discount over to here i am starting again from 0% discount

so go on have a guess in pound notes what its gonna cost me?
i did post on another thread about it but its higher than initially thought :(

here are the details

CAR:
Citroen C5 Tourer Exclusive
2.2 Hdi Bi-Turbo
value circa 21K sterling
2010 registered
29,000 Km on the clock
fully comp
business use
any driver(standard here)
european cover

Owner:
39 years old
teacher
married
lives in a good area
car is garaged
zero percent discount

so go on give me your best guesses :?

frighteningly you are both in the right range, maybe i shouldnt be so shocked then eh.

I am being told by my insurers in the uk that they wont write me a letter as its over a year now since i had full cover with them, now strangely here its 5 years from the end of cover that an insurance company must still write you a letter confirming cover held and any claims, anybody got any ideas on the law of this in the uk?

I think it might be worth me looking into this a bit further as i had a 5 years bump free back in the uk with a single broker, it just seems now they know that they wont be getting any further business from me they just cant be arsed

a couple more guesses and i will stick up the actual price including the current rate of exchange.

If it was here it'd be somewhere between 1,500 and 2k. The annoying thing is the fully comp bit ("kasko", which sounds worryingly close to "cash cow" to me) is not affected by any ncb, it's only the cheapest (basic) part of the insurance that goes down. I think how long they keep your ncb for depends on the company. If you have your old insurance policy you could try bunging that into the pot, see what they think of it.

Aye, I managed to transfer mine from the UK to Germany, and then on to France without any problems.

Bringing it back to the UK was a hassle though, even when I tried to use the same insurer (Axa). With 13 years NCB you would have thought they'd have been Queing up to take me back on. In the end I had to use Direct line.

Discopol - try asking to speak to a senior manager at the insurance company, I can't see why they're being difficult about it because it shouldn't be any skin off their nose to send you the proof of NCB.

one insurance Quoted me £2,890
ive have 7years n.c.b, and im 38,

ive had a few bumps none fault but never had a claim,

at one stage iwas just going to scrap the 406 icouidnt see the logic in paying daft money for insurance when its not exactly a high performance car,

ifound a company in scotland that helped me out and insured it cheap had to go on a Mileage deal tho that was the downfall :(

Churchill were quoting me nearly £4k for insuring the Coupe. So no, apparently that fuckin smug ugly dog can't save me money on my car insurance.

Based on your previous assumption of 3000zloty (£638) & the fact that you weren't too worried - I reckon it's going to be about 10000zloty.

Well you all in the right ball park, its actual price for this first year is

6,324 zloty all in, all the bells all the whistles

so at the current exchange rate of approx 4.5 pln (dunno why this is the acronym for the polish zloty but it is) to the pound then its costing me the grand sum of £1405 per year

ah well it is a very nice car and my accountant did tell me to spend some money on the business
