Hi All
Looking to sell my 406 after 6 years of ownership and have been thoroughly happy with the reliability of the vehicle but would like to invest in something with cheaper insurance and also and estate but wondered what people opinions or experiences of the 307 and xsara's were.

Re: New car 307 or Xsara estate HDI
I had a Xsara HDi 90 estate for 4 years / 100,000 virtually trouble free miles, (before the 406). Did 49/50 mpg despite my lead foot on one-up commuting, but fully loaded on holiday trips, more like 46/47. It felt nimble and nippy - I reckon a 110 HDi would be brilliant & even better on fuel.
The downsides are lack of space / sound deadening, (at least in an LX), got a bit tiresome on long motorway journeys. If the 110's got the same taller gearing it has in the 406, then that would be less of an issue.
Nobody wants Xsara's so cheap to buy / hard to sell.
Don't know much about 307's.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The Xsara is based on the ZX, and the ZX was one of the best cars I've ever owned.
Would probably prefer a TD XUDT engine though.
Newer HDis only I suppose. Just check theres no flatspots or sensor issues, and that the mounts aren't made of jelly.

I had drive in a new ZX 1.9D in 1991 and was really impressed - that's why I tried the Xsara!sirwiggum wrote:The Xsara is based on the ZX, and the ZX was one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Was never as fond of the 307 as I was the 306.
Seems to be a lot about though. And because the 308 is mostly indistinguishable from the blobfish 307 facelift, they still look very modern.
On the plus side, boy racers aren't ruining 307s like they are ruining diesel 306s. felt spec d-turbos
