starting a website help needed please

I am starting a business and need some help please.

how do i go about starting a website?

where do i register a domain?

when i have a domain, how do i upload content?

i run a content management system based website at work but its hosted by our parent company so dont deal with that side.

any help greatly appreciated.

I don't use these guys myself, http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ but they've been recommended by our marketing company. They'll be able to sort out hosting for you too.

There ends my knowledge of this subject... :lol:

+1 to 123-reg, at least for domain registrations. They're dirt cheap to register with and offer a very comprehensive control panel (we have about 60 domains on ours!), although I've not heard brilliant things about their hosting.

With regards to uploading etc, you may be best with an off the shelf content management system for the moment, things like Joomla or WordPress (originally was just a blog system but has quite good content management options too, I use it on my personal site).

I use one.com but haven't really got a proper website as such.
Any file uploads I do I just FTP to the site (you can open a Windows explorer window for example and just type ftp://domain.co.uk and it takes you there).
My dynamic stuff is all PHP based.
Your CMS system should be able to publish via FTP.
As mentioned, the likes of Wordpress can help you build a site.

heres my suggestion the wife uses this place http://www.orpheusnet.co.uk/ for her website hosting for her own website and her business, been with them for just over 4 years now and hasnt had any bother at all with them

i helped a neighbour with a website he uses 'mr site' to get it going its about £100 a year (for the pro version) and although the user interface is a bit counter intuative i was able to set most stuff up ok on it.
