To be fair, I think we are talking about lenses, all of which are very good. If you feel happier with the cannon, and it is i s, then go for it.
Since i've had a 18-200 mm I almost never change it. It nicely gets round the lugging of a camera bag. The only but is that they are heavy, but very convienient and flexable. Much less chance of missing that special shot cause the wrong lens is on the camera.
All these lenses are good, and should last a life time. Just don't drop them, or get them wet.

I've got a Canon EOS 400d which I've had for a few years, it's brilliant and you can't beat an SLR but I can't always be arsed to lug around the camera bag . So before I went on holidays last year I had a last minute impulse buy and got a Canon SX120, it's a cracking camera, it's a compact with lots of features that outperforms many much more expensive bridge cameras.

I have a 400d as well, along with a D70 Nikon - the Canon is way easier to use for a beginner!

As for a cheapy point and shoot - the Canon IXUS range is always decent. Durable too!

Save starting a new thread

The misses has decided she doesn't want to lug our main camera around on holiday all the time, and wants a compact for say on the beach
She would also like something that can take pics underwater
Is there anything available without spending too much

Did find one on argos for £50 but a few reviews complained of them leaking

That seems like a pretty good deal actually. I've seen that exact one on 'tinterweb branded as Praktica and Yashica but Maplins are the cheapest by far...

the kodak seems like a better deal some of maplins brands are a bit iffy, kodaks a good name with cameras

after my holiday with my panasonic lumix fs35 i uploaded all 700 pics i took on holiday and i have to say i am impressed with how clear they are on my big pc screen.

for £150 as well cant go wrong...
