with the way the Polish language works its very important to stress the noun and the verb order as the declination on the ending of the words dictates which is which, I hate Polish why didnt i stay in Spain their language was much much easier

Disc, I don't think you had many practical, pragmatic alternatives there mate.

Speaking as a right miserable late middle aged old bastard (me that is) I trust most nippers as far as I could throw a f'n Routemaster...

That said, it's not worth the aggro mate. If the kids parents don't volunteer something towards the cost of fixing, then it is highly probable they would have gone into super defensive overdrive if you'd mentioned it. Which makes the question; how much of a confrontation do you want? Under conflict circumstances you're even more unlikely to get 'owt.

Hurts like hell, pride bruised, it's f'n unjust.... But... What do you do? Realistically speaking?

It's hard to judge the more subtle elements from an online typed post. But none the less, I'd walk away. Bloody boiling mad, and I wouldn't forget it... But I'd still walk away - the political, family, personal and whatnot consequences of harsh re-action could be very damaging... Dunno mate, so hard to judge consequences...

One of the best bits of advice I ever had from my old boss and mentor the late great Jack Vorster was, "If in doubt keep quiet, sleep on it. Getting even may just mean living well." Took me an awfully long time to get to grips with that idea.

Ta Nico, i am much calmer about it now and just planning on getting as much of the damage sorted myself with various bits of kit, polishes, infills, t-cut, wax etc etc etc at least it has given me something to do with the car now.

Now onto these pens, can somebody who is coming to the summer meet order me a couple of ebay and i will pay for em at the meet, i am in the middle of setting up a new paypal account with paypal.pl and so on, need to confirm my credit card with em now and confirm my address here in Poland with a letter they going to send me in the next 14 days so on and so on blah blah blah, so if one of you kind chaps could oblige it would appreciated and i will stump up the cash at the meet.

Cheers Disco

Cheers Plod, that would be much appreciated :cheesy: ,

it's less than 5 weeks to the meet and i just know that once my paypal is sorted and i finally place the order, as im outside the uk the delivery will be more than the 3-5 days stated for you lucky chaps so all in all it will be quicker just to pick em up when im over.

Damn, poor C5. Only a month old and already wearing battle scars.. pesky cyclists and annoying children, eh Disco? I feel your pain, sorry about what's happened.
I know how slavs work because, well lets just say I have first hand/personal experience, otherwise known as being one. Most you'll ever get by going down the family pays for damage route is an "It's just a car." then a lot of angry faces every single time you meet anyone up to 3 counties away :| I've grown up around cars with my uncle playing a big part in it. He and my dad taught me that you have to show respect for people's possessions, especially big and expensive ones such as cars.
Almost every single time there was a family gathering my uncle would always offer us lifts with a few of his own cars, a whole fleet of tuned-up Opels (Vauxhalls) which always looked stunning as we were going somewhere but not so much when we were going back. What I felt the urge to do was to always help him with cleaning, polishing etc. as it just seemed fair - I mean he's unloaded literally thousands into a Vauxhall to make it nice and then helped us without ever demanding anything while sitting there and watching people ruin it. People wouldn't understand you if you said you're a car enthusiast, that you think of cars almost as family members. "Yeah, I may have nicked it slightly in the parking lot, sorry bro." is often just that, not accompanied by money, a lot of sorry-ing or even an offer to help get rid of the damage.
What I'm trying to get at here is that at least in my opinion you did the best thing possible, Disco. It could've gotten quite ugly and I'm glad you kept your cool and avoided conflict. Surely the parents' conscience should kick in soon? After all I'd imagine by Polish standards you are driving one very very expensive motor (By anyone's standards actually). Instead of talking to the other family members why not try your wife first? She could be of great support during hostile negotiations  If she's managed to understand you so far, explaining your car is quite important to you wouldn't be that hard, surely?
On the next family gathering questions such as "Why did Dave leave?" will fly her way and if she tells them what you've told her I'm certain the offending party's parents will feel bad about it and control their kids properly, maybe even offer compensation. You can't be blunt in such situations, try to work your magic on your wife so she can work hers on her relatives in order to achieve desired results!

I feel bad that I can't help you as I'm out of the country myself. Good luck with the fix, hope its not too expensive at the end!

My son is only 15 months but in a few years if he scratches anyone's car he will get a thick ear and made to apologise as well as what ever other punishments I can dream up.
Social services can bite my butt!
He's my son and I'll bring him up the same as I was bought up (although hopefully with less smackings than I got ;) )

A friend of my Farter in-law, years ago had a newish Jag (pride and joy etc) his 3 year old son 'Painted' deceptively capable pieces of every panel he could reach with Gloss paint and a wooden stick.

By the time he was 34 he had paid for the damage in full

It's a huge bummer Disco but you can bet your arse that if you sent it to the paint shop something else would happen to it soon after :frown:

I've been unlucky enough to not be able to afford decent motors with young kids in-toe and now they are older they don't want to go anywhere in the car anyway unless it's something THEY need then I'm their besy mate

I would have done the same as you Disco, parked it where I can see it and hopefully engage one or two other man-relatives in showing the car and talking shop for a bit but then sometimes you think f*ck it - what's it to them anyway :|

Anyway I'm sorry to hear and I hope things have calmed down a bit, health and family are the important things eh? well, some family anyway :|
