Got myself a spoiler

Post by FarmerPug »

I have been looking to buy one of these for some time now but not really for the prices i seen on the internet, so i won one for £44
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220837797037? ... 500wt_1156

as stated there are some scratches, but it will need sanded down anyhow for painting, could i paint this myself or should i get it done professionally?
as for fitting how are these bolted down?

Looks like it bolts through the bootlid, so you'll need to make a template from the spoiler and use it to drill your bootlid to fit

or... you can have it done from a Peugeot dealer.

On servicebox I can only find spoiler 9614.Q4, it says 1h work, not much.
But is should come with fittings and instructions, according to SB...

That part number (9814N7) doesn't seem to exist...

this spoiler doesnt come with much (its only £44) but the seller will throw in some suitable bolts and advised me to use a sealant to prevent leaking.
but it needs to get painted so perhaps the bodywork place can attach it aswell

That does not look like the genuine 406 spoiler to me, well not the one i had and others i have seen. The one i had had fixing clamps which went round the boot lid edge, no drilling required.

Opening credits start

The interior of a 406 executive
A farmerpug smoking a cigar
Various scenes of the Ulster countryside, cows and that
Pulls up outside his house and gets out
To the tune of:
#Woke up this morning, got myself a spoiler.#
The Farmerpugs

That double sided tapes that hold numberplates on and the bootlip spoilers would that be sufficient to keep a big spoiler like this on?

It seems there were multiple different types of spoiler. I reckon this one looks more suited to the D8, being honest. The one I had on my old car was the one featured on the official accessories brochure for the D9.

To fit it, you had two double-sided self-adhesive rubber pads that stick to the bottom of the spoiler (one on either side); these then stick down to the boot lid itself. At the ends of the spoiler were two metal clamps which you had to tighten (using a Torx bit screwdriver) over the boot lid. Just needed some careful measuring, and a small piece of thick, transparent tape to wrap around the boot lid edges so that the metal clamp doesn't damage your paintwork.

The only thing about my spoiler was that it made the boot lid very heavy, so you had to shut the lid carefully. Also, once it's been on the car for any length of time, it can be nigh-on impossible to remove without damaging it or damaging your boot lid.

FP, the spoiler you've got is definitely a genuine Peugeot spoiler; it may be for a D8 saloon, or it may be for a 405 or a 306 Sedan. It definitely seems to need to be bolted through your boot lid - think very carefully before you fit it, as once you drill, there's no going back.

There appears to be 3 different peugeot spoilers for the 406

There is the one Highlander and you mention which is the same as mine and "clamped" onto the edges of the bootlid
Then there appears to be 2 styles of bolted down spoilers, the above being one of them

Probably just superceded by the later Q4

I bet that one hour is with the template as well - I suspect the dealer unwilling to do without it, and at the same time without selling it in the first place to really earn the mark up on it

that sounds like a good tv show.

by the way the spoiler is for a d8, and the seller said it needs the holes drilled, but sure once painted im sure it will look ok on my car, the d8 one has the wee support in the middle which is nice.

The spoiler arrived in so much bubble wrap and cling filim i put the stanley knife in and it didnt get through all the layers, you could have a good afternoon at pass the parcel there was so much bubble wrap, but eventually cardboard appeared and inside was a spoiler.

I took off the bolts, and just set it onto my bootlid:

it definatley needs some sort of template first, and a bit of prep before painting, is the D8 boot any different to a D9 in terms of size.
I might get another d9 for breaking and it has a spoiler and good bootlid on it.

I do like that spoiler, at least it is different to the other D9 spoilers.

Is the high level brake light still visible from behind it?

Best of my knowledge the D9 bootlid is slightly curved compared to the D8 which was fairly angular. Is the D9 boot higher than the D8? (as per the Rover 800 facelift?)

if its curved then theres going to be a problem getting this one to fit, the high level brake light is ok its mounted at the top of the back window

ill see how much this other d9 is i might just get the bootlid and spoiler on it resprayed in one go as opposed to mounting a spoiler to my bootlid.

where can you get the template for the spoilers?
I had a look at a D9 parked beside my car which had the spoiler, its the same type as the one ive bought.

Think you'd have to make one bud

I did it years back on an Opel Manta when I fitted and modified a coupe spoiler to fit the hatch
And then again when fitting an XR4i spoiler to an XR4x4
