The little man will win soon! Spoken to DVLA said that it cannot be changed, and 'your car produces 196 g/km and that's the rate. 'But also spoken to the Peugeot head office, they are going to write on my behalf (done this for several people so handy to know) because actual verified emmissions are.... 149 g/km for the 90bhp HDI and that's two tax brackets lower than currently being charged!

So from my current charge of £245 12months
it will reduce to £130 12 months

Wonder how many more people are paying too much to the bastards!

This is surreal.

149, i.e., £130/year is the going rate for a 406 HDi 90 (and 110 too, actually).

How can identical cars end up in different tax bands?

On a 9 year old car, it is more than decent of Peugeot indeed! Now to try and get 9 years extra tax back (Hah! as if, but if it was on the other foot you'd have to back date it you can be sure!)

we moan about the stealers inflated prices but, i have used them a couple of times and always found them very helpful even tho my car is 12 years old, and you would think they wouldn't give a toss, even got a discount on a 12 quid thermostat housing

tell ya what ,if i had owned that car from new and found out what you have i would be trying to get that money back
unfortunately having just bought it i dont think they will play ball on that one
well done for pushing on with it tho alot of people would have just coughed up the cash,none the wiser. wonder if there's anyone else on here who pays the higher rate?

Well, it's all down to an error on the log book,it should read 149 gm/km as the emissions are 196 urban 122 extra urban and 149 combined (which DVLA agree is the correct level) but as the log book states 196 so they wont change it as 'it's Peugeot's mistake' @ wtf! So that's it they won't budge, I should be paying £130 not £235 that's 9 years of extra tax the bastards have had. I could put in a larger engine, change, how pig headed an unhelpful can you get?
I'm going to take it up with my MP Sod 'em!

PS:
Peugeot could not have been more helpful, written two letters for me, sent DVLA a copy of the original certificate issued when new, and the DVLA don't want to know.
