This is what I found when I returned to my car in the car park at Tesco in Basingstoke this afternoon at quarter to two.

Now, I can not see any new damage, and I know that my 406 is a bit tatty to say the least, but still, what a c***.

I think I'd be tempted to wait for her to have a go, then I'd start to wonder if it was going to be her 6'6" boyfriend that had parked it there because he's borrowed it while his bmw is in the repairers again, and then get into an argument when he says he didn't park it like that and I must have driven into it to try and do an insurance scam and biff! Hospital food sucks.

I was born and live in a small city (Belluno) where this would be considered damage and inacceptable. Two years ago I started University in a bigger city (Trieste) where finding a free parking is absolutely impossible. People do everything and park everywhere with no respect for others or for their own car. I soon found out that this way of parking is mostly normal and accepted here, but the first week i was like WTF you're hitting him!
Last week I saw a big van (a splinter) parking in a spot too small for a 406. He hit front, rear, and not gently also. Pretty sure that clio he was hitting into has a damaged bumper now. That's normal. It's crazy.
I use the car only once a week when I'm there, so I park out of the city in some spot with a lamp in front and a wall behind, or something like that. I have to walk 30 mins to get to the car but who cares: in two years I got "only" one small bump and two scratches hopefully not very into the paint.
EDIT: comes to mind that saloon's bumpers are much much more strong than coupé's. I wouldn't bring a 406 coupé to Trieste, no sir, I wouldn't.

If there is any damage what so ever, report it to the police. The supermarket would have CCTV, so there would be no question about who would be at fault.
Part of the reason I do most of my miles in an old scrapper is that I was fed up with people knocking lumps out of my pride and joy

this is why tow bars are great, reverse into the parking space and should
you encounter a car driven by someone who cant reverse it leaves a dent in their car

I call it parking the French way OdinEidolon.
Parisians assure me that this is normal and that the English are overly protective about their cars -- an Englishman's home is his castle and all that.
However, it could just be a big city thing. Though this wasn't my experience of London.
There isn't any new damage that I can see. (I'm still trying to find a new front bumper in the right colour anyway.)

Hell, If I'm not sure my car is going to fit the spot I'll just search for another on and walk 5 mins more. No, they all have to park not more than 5 meters away from their homes. You often get cars blocking yours with a hand writing inside "call ... to move the car". Heck, what if I'm in a hurry? What if someone in my family needs a fast drive to the hospital? Go f*****g parking on the other side of the city and take a bus, since there are plenty!

Reminds me of an incident with our next-door-neighbour from the 1970's.....
Looking out an upstairs window, I spotted said neighbour trying to find a parking space. Eventually, he pulled in behind my dad's Viva & shoved it forward a car length with the Fiat estate his outfit supplied him. (He was a telly sales/repair man, they used to have estate cars with side windows panelled over).
We were a bit miffed, but my bro talked me out of 'having a word' - instead we moved the Viva & replaced it with his 3.8 mk2 Jag......
After a few blasts on the horn to ensure he had the plonker's attention, he started to push the Fiat backwards. Neighbour had left it in gear with the handbrake on, but 3781 cc of XK engine rose to the challenge magnificently. Seconds later, the Italian vehicle was reversing down the street quicker than it's designers had ever envisaged, swathed in clouds of tyre smoke to the accompaniment of a straight-six Coventry howl and the whine of straight cut gears.
He left in half-on & half-off the grass verge about 200 yds further down the road.
Oddly, not a single word was exchanged. Suffice it to say, there was never any need for a repeat performance.

Just looking at the silver car next to you and he's a bit further back, also the front of the 307 isn't overly far back from its front margin

I further offer that I might just be able to make out a white line directly under your indicator lens?
Not wanting to cause offence but just keen to add some 'balance' to the proceedings

Some of these spaces though, for a long saloon / coupe, you have a choice of sticking the back end out, which if it is a through-way, is suboptimal, or inching forward slightly over the line.
Especially a FWD car which has limited turning circle, so by the time you've strightened up, you're in the forward space.
These days I try and park away from everyone, and still ended up with a small but noticable door ding!
