New Mot certificates.

Post by jasper5 »

Are you all ready for the new mot certificates due out next week?

The certificate has the mot and advisories on one sheet so no hiding the advisories now :cheesy:

Baš me briga? (what do I care?) It either passes or it fails here, no advisories - I have to ask the testers to tell me if they see anything suspect.

I suppose it's good news if you're buying, bad news if you're selling and there's a few iffy items on there. Especially if they're expensive...

All that'll happen now will be sellers not giving buyers the MOT certificate at all.

Personally I'd prefer it! My car came with most of the mot certficates but there was nothing about advisories or failures. When I did an MOT history check online it had failed twice, I would much rather know to be honest and it stops dodgy garages hiding stuff too!

Hi Jasper - any word on VOSA's stand on after-market HID lighting kits? I'm kinda humming and hawing about it, but won't splash out on a kit (plus a person with considerably more skill than myself to fit them) unless I know they're not going to be outlawed on the MOT.

I'd be looking to put in some HIDs that give a pure white light, rather than any of the silly blue ones that a lot of modders add (which are definitely illegal - I seem to recall that only emergency services are allowed blue lights on their vehicles in the UK)

Hi highlander,

I'm going to my mot garage tomorrow with a Peugeot Partner van for mot, I'll find out for you and let you know later tomorrow afternoon....I have to service, mot and fit new glow plugs to it, unless it fails then I'll have to get it sorted.

Cheers - it'd be good to get an official stance on the matter.

I'm fairly sure several coupe owners have got their's through multiple MOT's with HID's fitted.

Technically, they say it's not possible to have 'legal' aftermarket HID's, becauase they must have approval by the car manufacturer.

As far as I could determine though it should get through provided:
a). You have projector lenses,
b). You have a headlight cleaning system, (i.e. headlamp washers).
c). You have self-levelling lights and/or self levelling suspension.

Clearly you're not going to be covered on the last point, but rumour has it if the aim is OK under test, they can't or don't test the levelling mechanism anyway.

If I had a coupe, it'd already be done, (but if your MOT's due it wouldn't hurt to do it afterwards).

In any case, the conversion should be reversible in the unlikely event you need some 'MOT bulbs'.

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Just had a look at the new form on VOSA's web site and it's got to be a good thing for buyers.
How many 'cheap' cars are on small dealers forecourts which have had the minimum done to get them tested.
A big list of advisories 'should' force the price down or work to be done.

lets hope so anyway!!!

Pretty much summed it up there doggy :D

This is how steve is looking at it, he said the self levelling bit is a grey area so he won't be taking any notice of that.

BTW....testers have been instructed to write advisories for the new items which might fail under the new rules for the first couple of months until folks get used to everything.

OH! and the new certificate is a load of rubbish...if you want to hide the advisories just scan the document with the advisories covered up....stupid

Back to the Partner van....need to replace the throttle cable on it....done the service, mot and glow plugs :D
