Hi Jasper - any word on VOSA's stand on after-market HID lighting kits? I'm kinda humming and hawing about it, but won't splash out on a kit (plus a person with considerably more skill than myself to fit them) unless I know they're not going to be outlawed on the MOT.jasper5 wrote:Are you all ready for the new mot certificates due out next week?
At which stage you run away from the dodgy motor.sirwiggum wrote:All that'll happen now will be sellers not giving buyers the MOT certificate at all.
"Lost it mate, innit. You can still tax it at the tax office though."

I'd be looking to put in some HIDs that give a pure white light, rather than any of the silly blue ones that a lot of modders add (which are definitely illegal - I seem to recall that only emergency services are allowed blue lights on their vehicles in the UK)

Technically, they say it's not possible to have 'legal' aftermarket HID's, becauase they must have approval by the car manufacturer.
As far as I could determine though it should get through provided:
a). You have projector lenses,
b). You have a headlight cleaning system, (i.e. headlamp washers).
c). You have self-levelling lights and/or self levelling suspension.
Clearly you're not going to be covered on the last point, but rumour has it if the aim is OK under test, they can't or don't test the levelling mechanism anyway.
If I had a coupe, it'd already be done, (but if your MOT's due it wouldn't hurt to do it afterwards).
In any case, the conversion should be reversible in the unlikely event you need some 'MOT bulbs'.
Nice one jasper!jasper5 wrote:Back to the Partner van....need to replace the throttle cable on it....done the service, mot and glow plugs
