My Car Has Died :-(

Post by Gary406 »

my 406 has not been right for a few weeks now. well underpowered and spluttering. so today i checked the oil and water. and guess what. very little engine oil in the engine , and the coolant water is jet black

spoke to john (jasper) on the phone to just get a 2nd opinion on it as i had an idea it was the head gasket. and yup he said the only way oil can get in the water is head gasket or a cracked head.

just drove the car home 3 miles from mother in laws and its dead now no power in it at all. i'm gutted

*Lowers flag to half mast* Sorry to hear your car died Gary, although I would suggest the condition of the body to be the most important thing on a D8. It's up to you at the end of the day.

If I were in your shoes I'd be looking out for a good 2.1td - there must be some left

Sorry to hear that! Such a shame!
We've had a few gaskets gone on ours so that's what I was going to say happened too!
As for the comment about them not costing too much, well £1,500 is a lot to us and in most cases than not, it is cheaper to get another car. Obviously if you've spent hundreds in adding mods, body kits, lights etc etc etc - then perhaps this is something you'll want to do (have the gasket done).

Entirely your decision, which ever way you look at it, it's going to cost some serious money - Rest in peace lovely pug

Was going to suggest the oil cooler maybe cooked but if it's not starting at all then It's defo the head gasket.

You can pick up a new engine for £150 :|

Cruicial these XUD's get regular coolant changes. They are renown for head gasket failure but it's due to two reasons, coolant not being changed and then when it has been changed it getting replaced with a cheap fiber gasket which don't last 5 minuites. They must have Multi layered steel gaskets.

Ahh well, anotherone bites the dust I guess :(

It happened to a number of the old xud peugeots i had, although even in the worst case the 306 the oil went into the water and turned it black and it was a b**ch to start it still kept going.
