But I thought I had problems with my W plate. With a 12 plate, cheap cars will definitely be a no-no for you Mr Rees.

Nah mate, you can't assign a registration that'll make a car look newer than it is. Or are you suggesting something else
So you'll need a new, non used car to fit that?
Is this service free in UK? Here it isn't even possible to fit a different plate.

The number is mine now, but I won't be able to put it on a car that's first registered before March 2012. There's nothing stopping me keeping it on retention for 10 years if I want (you have to pay a retention fee, not sure how much) then buying a 9 year old car and assigning this number to it.
The price I paid this morning includes 1 years retention and an assignment fee, so If I were to buy a car that's new enough within the next year it won't cost me a penny to get the number put on it.
My best bet might be to hang on 'till the autumn and then buy a 6 month old car (for about 60 - 70% of the new price!!)
