syphoning petrol

scrappy is coming tomorrow to take me buggered d8 away.
its still got 2/3rds of a tank a petrol in it . i've tried putting hose pipe down the filler pipe to syphon the petrol out but it appears to have a anti syphon thing at the bottom of the neck?? the hose just stops against something solid?
is there any other way bar taking the tank off completely?? read through the haynes and it seems a bit of a pain to remove it completely specially as its gonna be weighing best part of 50 kgs.
any ideas??

If you still have working electrics take off a fuel pipe at the injector rail and pump the fuel out.

Be careful working with petrol!!

now for a really really stupid question but i got to make sure...................the engine will need to be turning/cranking. yes?? reason i ask is cambelts gone. maybe i should of put that first, but it's been one of theose weeks.

Not 100% but if the cam belt has snapped you could try turning the fuel pump by hand but it may be quite laborious, How ever if the lift pump is still working that may run off the ignition and you could disconnect the fuel line before the pump. Worth a shot???

lift up back seat and remove sender unit then stick a pipe in.

Not 100% but if the cam belt has snapped you could try turning the fuel pump by hand but it may be quite laborious, How ever if the lift pump is still working that may run off the ignition and you could disconnect the fuel line before the pump. Worth a shot???

thanks again for the ideas. i did wonder if there was a unit in the top of the tank that could be removed . shall have a look at all these options in the morning

You don't need to be cranking the engine, just have the ignition on.

I always thought the fuel pump will 'prime' and then pause until the engine fires up and starts drawing off petrol (pressure drop)?

If it does then I think Omega's idea of attacking the back seat access panel is a good one.

Lift pumps usually operate for a fixed time period when turning the ignition on, then keep going once you have oil pressure, (though I can't confirm 406's are the same).

On diesels, the fuel pump fuse is connected directly to the lift pump, so removing the fuse & feeding 12v into the motor side of the fuse holder with a male spade connector on the end of a lead will run it continuously.

well it's gone
took the sender unit out top of tank and did it that way .got 30 litres and one mouth full out of it . me burps have been stinking of petrol all afternoon
got to love the haynes "undo nuts and pull seat forward slightly and lift to release it from its retaining pegs" yeah right!!! try: wrestle with seat to point of bending metal frame, force hand underneath and rip the foam from around the retaining peg and remove
and:"cut the peugeot pipe crimp, disconnect fuel pipes from top of sender , replace with jubilee clips." yeah right!!! try: my pipe connections were fitted with a fancy screw type thing with a plastic locking piece, so just break the pipe off at the unit.
good job i weren't keeping the car coz after i done it woulda been a scrapper anyway

on another subject:

the remote central locking aint working on the new car. tried all variations on the re sync theme no success.only thing left is to disconnect the battery . i wuldn't be too fussed if the key worked in the lock but the damn thing keeps spinning so i went to the dealer today and asked for a quote
so, new remote key , coded to the car, retrieval of code using vin number, labour and vat : £127.
tbh i was expecting nearer 200 but i think i'm gonna end up having to go down this route , coz one of these days i aint gonna be able to get in the car

and i won a "100 % working " mfd on ebay today £10.50 . i think thats a result me self so i'll have that to fit soon

no rest for the wicked eh??

the easy way is to buy a syphon pump only a couple of quid saves the taste!

for some reason nowadays a lot of cars wont pump fuel with the ignition on and the pipe off,dont know why.

Petrol should pump out with the ignition on....that's why they fit fuel cut-off devices!

I, (or someone else with PP2000 nearer to you), will get your car to 're-learn' the key(s), again foc / a couple of beer tokens.

assuming being the operative word. it has 2 buttons one with a unlocked padlock one with a locked padlock but no light to show it's working . i've tried 2 new batteries in it as well.
the passenger side works but feels dodgy too. i sprayed a load of wd40 in the lock and it worked for a few days until today so in goes a load more wd and its working again ....for now.
i've registered on digital kaos and will ask the question in there, thanks for the link doggy

i wasn't expecting it to come through that quick it was a second at the most through about 4 foot of pipe. can put that one down to experiance

code obtained. now just need someone with pp2000. there was talk of a map of members with pp2000. did this ever get done??
or alternatively doggy, i am goin kent next friday could take a slight detour and pop in to you, if you dont mind???
