Windows 8
Has anybody tried it yet? I got hold of it recently and it installed fine, did an upgrade from Windows 7 rather than a clean install. I ran Windows update and all was fine until the weekend gone. There are 3 updates but everytime I try to install them they either fail then and there or fail when my laptop reboots and tries to configure the updates. I've run Microsofts diagnostic tool and it finds 3 errors, one relates to the BITS system and the other 2 to do with the update database and I get one of those error codes with it. Microsofts fixit too won't work, says its not compatible with my system configuration and I'm having trouble doing it manually. I really don't want to have to do a new clean install of it as it took 90 mins the last time!

Re: Windows 8
I actually installed Mac OS X Mountain Lion on my PC a few weeks ago. And a very nice OS it is. No need to spend £££ on Apple hardware.
Having seen Windows 8 on various review sites, I will never install it. So many things there are just pointless (Metro...que?). It's difficult to see how they could improve Windows 7 really, as it's such a stable OS, so they just screwed it up.

Re: Windows 8
I installed Windows 8 last week on my main PC, when i first used the alphas i thought there is no way the 'Start Menu' would stay the same and i was going to not bother with it, but i've had in on my media center for over a month now and its growing on me, Explorer has been improved, not needing to go though the menu's to enable/disable hidden files and various other bits like this i quite like, but why have they changed the keyboard shortcuts, i used to like Alt-FWF to make a new folder, no i have to learn all new ones!!
I decided to ignore the reviews but there are some good articles on the best features that never get mentioned, i want to get Windows 8 Enterprise so i can play with Windows To Go!

Re: Windows 8
So how do you get around not having a start button? Is there anyway you can bring up the start menu like in Win 7 without having to download something else? Been trying to find the command prompt and where I can use the run command but I haven't found it yet.

Re: Windows 8
You can't get a classic start button without using 3rd party software, they stripped it completely.
To get the Run command just press Win-R, or if you want to run a command just type it when on the 'Metro' screen
