Now there is a commonish' fault with these where the seal on the wiper motor fails and lets a small amount of water in. This drips down to the boot latch and sets the alarm off.
There is also a very similar fault. The rear windscreen washer is built into the wiper. The pipe that goes to the wiper is known weep a little and do the same thing.
So he dropped it back into the dealer he bought it from who apparently replaced the boot latch?

Anyway he give me a ring a few days ago and said the alarm was still going off so I offered to take a look.
Took the boot cover off and there was indeed a new latch fitted. Then around the wiper motor was huge amounts of silicone sealant

The pipe going to the wiper motor had been removed, silicone put around the pipe and refitted?

And there was silicone around all of the electrical connections to stop water getting in?

All I did was clean off all the silicone and clean all the electrical connections.
Then I removed the wiper motor, cleaned the seal and fed it with some trim dressing and put a tiny bead of clear silicone around the lip of it with a toothpick.
Refitted the seal and the motor.
Trimmed the wiper hose down where it has stretched and split over the years and refitted.
Greased up the boot latch.
And it was all fixed! There was no need to replace the boot latch and why on earth did they put silicone everywhere?
