Tyres for a 407
Started this as Jasper wanted advice on tyres for his 407, basically ive onlt ever bought budget tyres for my last 407 and never had a problem with them.
the lsat 'pair' i put on the front were 'accelera' and although a tad noisy, nothing to complain about.
I did recently put one budget tyre on the n/s/f and had the original pirelli that was on the spare put on the o/s/f as it was nnearly 8 years old and never been on the car and couldnt tell any grip difference from either side, had a pair of part worn Bridestones fitted to the rear and again nowt to say really.
I dont tare-arse around in my car unless its a sunny day etc so i drive to the capabilities of the tyres/road/conditions etc.
assuming here that yours is on 215/55/17's
how about

now that new rating thing reckons there not that good in the wet so make your own decision on that.
Oh and the tyres that were on my old 407 are going strong, just on my eldest son's 407 as he had those 16" wheels with no centre hole, so a mare to balance

Its the Same link you posted mate:
iwas refering to the Accelera Alpha Tyres,
The accelra alpha tyres, lasted well not much road noise off them
theres Mixed debates about them on Review sites, some say there Rubbish in the wet, but ididnt find aproblem with them
But saying that im not much clued up on tyres,
the ones ive got fitted on the 306 at present ithought were some Cheap rubbish but ive been proven wrong so far
theyve been very good so far in this bad weather we are having, Theyre Champaro GT,

Re: Tyres for a 407
I personally find that although decent tyres cost twice as much they last three times as long!
Also after driving my focus with Budgets and then having 4 decent tyres fitted the difference was phenomenal! I won't go near budgets again.
Just had a look at the options for your car.
Falken Ziex ZE-914's is where my money would be going.
I had 4x Ziex 912's on the Focus (I assume it's the 914's predecessor) and they were amazing for the money!

Re: Tyres for a 407
knew this would turn into a debate
isnt how long a tyre lasts something to do with harder compounds wear slower than softer compounds, BUT softer compounds give more grip especially in the wet ?????????????????
Then theres the winter tyre debate
just had a look at them in the right size Sam and there £40 a corner dearer, weird sizes on the 407's

Re: Tyres for a 407
Well, I got 4 budgets in the end, I had a fair job finding a tyre place with any tyres for the 407 actually in stock, as trem said, the 407 tyres are a weird size. (215/55/17)
£70 each, they looked alright and drive fine so far, the car is used 95% for motorway driving so I'm not worried about them being budgets.
New cam belt next, speedo just clocked 70,000 miles, not going to leave it until the correct mileage.

Re: Tyres for a 407
The Volvo has weird size tyres;
The standard size at 205/50/17 XL are about £130.00 a pop
Or, you can go up to 225/45/17 at £85.00 each
Apparently 225's are far more common.
Speaking of Winter tyres I bought mine last November as I was desperate for two fronts anyway, but now I need a set of 4 x summer's by March at the latest @ £350.00
