Old 406 smashed up by driver without eyes

It's funny you mention the 407 2.0, as I have been looking at these today and was going to ask you guys what you thought about them. The one I have my eyes on is the Peugeot 407 2.0 HDi 136 SE.

We have one of these, the flywheel failed on mine at 44,000 miles (done around 71,000 now) all it did was rattle and vibrate, nothing broke.

Apart from the flywheel our 407 has been a brilliant car, I would recommend it to anyone.

On paper the 2.2 HDi 170 looks a better bet, that that's what's on my shopping list There are some very competitively price estates about at the moment.

Yes, flywheels do seem to be a weak point on the 407.

It was quite expensive....I paid trade price for my parts and did the whole job myself....the parts cost me around £600, I have a mate who is manager of one of the local Peugeot dealers who got them at cost for me.

Another mate who owns a garage last did one of these at £950 fitted, including the clutch.

Our 136 is a flying machine, the 170 must be a real hot mover

The power and fuel consumption is great, 2000 rpm in 6th gives 70mph and around 50mpg.

From my pre-purchase research I always knew the flywheel would give me trouble at some point, but 44,000 was a little early....I tried to get some redress from Peugeot, but they only offered 25% of the total cost of the job, which was 25% of £1,200 in the dealers.I decided to do it myself.
