Xsara Picasso

Post by leestudd30 »

I'm going to look at one tomorrow, an 02 plate Exclusive HDi model. Its got history and an MOT till next Jan, not much tax but only £70 for 6 months. I know the HDi engine is pretty tough, is there anything obvious I should look look out for? I've never owned a diesel before!

The sister-in-law owned one for about 3 years, not much out of the ordinary to look for. Usual checks on bodywork and electrics and evidence of cam belt changes, tidy engine bay with clean coolant and no yoghurt in the oil.
I believe it's just a Xsara/406 with some extra bodywork so bottom mount/engine movement and exhaust flexi are worth a nosey and they have the same style of chocolate drop link as the 406 so expect that familiar knock over bumpy tarmac, maybe haggle the price down if you like the car.

The hdi engines are good,

the Main bit iwouid concentrate on is the picasso itself,
they can be plagued with problems,

id be making sure the drivers door window works there prone for cables snaping
check the digital display.
check drivers seat for colapsed springs.
rear camber,

Well I did buy one in the end! The one I was going to see turned out to be a bit of a shed, so I had a look at an 05 Desire HDi and bought that instead! I really like it, very comfy and nice to drive. The pug went to the breakers in the morning, got £150 for it so not too bad!

8) the desire thats the posh one aint it?

big sunroof and leather seats ?

Did you get a shopping trolley with it :D

Make sure you get the jack out from the spare wheel,

if the jack and wheel brace is in its correct place, you get problems if you get a puncture on the rear,

Unfortunately no, the exclusive has the double electric glass roof, leather, climate and cruise, desire is one spec down but still very nice! Love the autolocking when you drive off and the fancy dash! Bit different driving a turbo diesel compared to my old cars but getting used to it! To be honest I haven't even looked for the jack or wheel brace, but I can get cheap Uniparts from work. No box in the boot but I can get one off ebay!
