Hire a Car to drive to Germany?

Post by Welly »

Thinking of driving to Germany in the Summer for a long weekend, do these Hire Car places let you 'go international' with them? I'd probably put over 1300 miles on the thing :supafrisk: I would probably Hire an S-Max or similar.

Reason for not taking the Volvo is that it's too small and has been known to be a tad thirsty  (I could probably save over£125.00 using a Diesel)*

*Yes, Doggy, I did say that :(

Could you not just, you know, ask? :?

Holy inappropriate cars Batman! Not really, people should buy cars that'll cope with the majority of things they'll want to use it for but you can't include everything, you wouldn't, say, want to have to buy a small van just on the off-chance you'll be moving house in the next few years.

One of my colleagues used to work for one of the big car rental companies and would certainly be able to answer any of your questions, but she's on a course this week, typical!

Don't they have milage limits these days with extra per mile if you go over it?

Steve - I should just ring one up I guess but I suppose I wondered if anyone had experience of this too? you're right though if I drove around in an S-Max all day everyday there'd just be little old me in the drivers seat lugging all that extra mass around :|

Dai - thanks for the input, can't they interrupt her course to answer this? it's rather pressing

I'd like to take the Volvo but don't really want to add 1300-odd miles to it and I'm also a bit bothered that something will go 'bang' on the way :? it's only recently I had the oil thing go pop and last night my expansion bottle split! it has split above the water line so I can get away with it until the new one comes tomorrow. These random failures do nothing for my confidence though :(

Does the expansion bottle also have "FoMoCo" written on it?

Probably!

Ordered a new one this morning, £30.00 delivered, but you don't get a new cap (that's another £18.00  ).
