Weather can affect sky but it has to be bad, they ain't installed the dish right is my guess.
My house one likes to freeze in the middle of footy but that's only been twice to my knowledge, the one on my tripod in the caravan that i use if i can't pick up Freeview has seen far worse weather and hardly misses a beat... Maybe the sky engineers should self train like i did.

I've found mine works best where both bars are about three quarters but that's a standard sky box, I'd get up there and tweak it if you can just bullshit them if you feck it up and have to call them out....I know you can blame the weather.

Sorted,

it was running on old software,
so idid a Force Software upgrade on it, takes 20mins

How To Update The Software On Your Sky Box

This procedure applies to all Sky boxes; standard digibox, Sky+ and Sky+ HD.

The following describes how to initiate a forced software update. This will update your box to the latest stable software. Be aware that some older digiboxes may not find any suitable updates or be unable to apply the updates if they have missed too many. See Is My Sky Digibox Software Up To Date? for more info on standard digiboxes.

Your box must be connected to a correctly aligned satellite dish to receive any updates. This should not be performed if you have signal strength issues. It’s also worth connecting the box to a TV for confirmation of the update. The phone-line need not be connected.

Put your box into standby.
For Sky+ or Sky+HD, wait until the box itself is silent. This allows the hard disk to spin down and the fan/s to switch off.
Remove mains power from the box (ie pull the plug from the wall or remove the mains cable from the back of the box).
Wait 2 minutes. (It’s debatable how necessary this is. If you speak to Sky they may tell you to remove and re-insert your card, and to disconnect and re-connect your satellite feeds at this point. Personally, I think this is just filler to make sure you’ve waited a short period of time before continuing.)
Press and hold the Backup button on the front panel of your box (ie not the one on the remote).
With the button pressed, re-apply mains power (ie plug it in again).
Continue to hold Backup until you see the front panel LEDs illuminate and/or an on-screen message explaining that the box is being updated.

Differnce, Both signal strength bars are equal,
and the layout for the tv channels is diffent, Big improvement,

weird why sky dont tell people to do this, :frown:
Most probs so you plug it into a phone line, Bastids

Next job, find some codes so ican add some other channels from other countrys, got enough american stuff already :supafrisk:

edit: Doh: its not analogue anymore, so there goes that idea,

I used to install sky, it used to be a £25 fee for a no phone install. You do not need a phone line to activate your box, although it is quicker, part of the phone line is to offer cheap calls, broadband and security. Sky do what is called a ring back service which shows all the box details and what you have been watching(allegedly) you have probably been misinformed with the install/sales info as the phone line has to be telecoms. Yo still have to pay the line rental to them. Did you sign up in a supermarket or somewhere similar?

Try something i did a few years ago, i can't remember the specific reasons i did now but i wasn't getting any joy through customer service, email the Chief Exec :)

[email protected]

After about two days i had a response and a credit applied on my account, might be worth a shot to push it along a bit.
