Did you draw that yourself? :-P
Another issue may have been if the car's been sitting for a while and possibly wasn't completely warmed up. The 2.2 petrol has variable intake timing below 4300rpm that only works if the oil is between 40C and 140C and you want to accelerate in a non-leisurely fashion. Until the oil has warmed up and the VTC is enabled by the ECU, the engine will feel down on torque. Once it's on, you'll have 90% of the engine's torque available from 2000rpm. It'll pull nice and strong, smooth and have much better throttle response, it's an engine that just doesn't feel quite right when it's cold.
I used to drive a diesel and while the kick in the pants made it feel like it could out-accelerate anything, the fact is that I can hit a much higher speed down the same on-ramp in my petrol, it's just a longer smoother pull instead of instant-on torque.

Pretty sure it was warm as the guy had to bring the car from somewhere. It wasn't bad setting off but it was very flat on acceleration....

Even punching it from ~3500rpm to redline in 2nd and 3rd? Must be the extra ~250kg the 407 carries over the 406. Such a shame :-(

Dunno - it just felt flat. When revving it to the red-line, there just seemed to be a ton of revving noise and not much else
Anyway, I am sticking to diesels.

I can still remember raving about the first 1.9TD 405's which were a class act in the early 1990's. Did 80-odd miles in a GL demonstrator and you genuinely couldn't tell it was a diesel if the windows were shut. It had so much 4th / 5 th gear performance, it was like a 3.0 petrol. Real eye-opener.
Now HDi's, particularly the 16-valve variety, make XUD's sound like something from generations ago and are much quicker. It takes a pretty special petrol car to show mine a clean pair of heels.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I personally love the sound of a mechanical XUD. They have so much charecter!
Modern diesels are boring.
