Hi all
I have a peugeot 406 hdi 110 estate. Its done 108k and is serviced and generally well looked after. I wanted a car that was good on fuel and with a big boot but also had to be comfy for long journeys. Now iam just wondering if 875 miles to a tank is good. That was travelling with a very light foot, not going over 2k rpm and driving at 60 on the motorway. Anyone else have these figures or more?
875 miles on 75ltrs of diesel. Is that good?

It's better than I've ever done with a 2.2, (my best is 790), but the 110 should be more economical and I'm generally not renowned for taking it easy.
The 110 should be the best of the bunch. Your figures equate to 53 mpg, which isn't bad. I generally get 2-3 mpg more in summer than winter, so you may see some more inprovement yet.

Hi & welcome.
108k? It's a baby!
16.5 gallons, so that's 53 mpg. Not bad for a beginner
Sounds like you've measured brim-to-brim, which is the only reliable way to do it
Although if you used 75 litres then you must have been running on air by the end -- I think the tank capacity is 66 litres!
They are brilliant cars (I may be biased). What else did you look at besides the 406, and what tipped it in favour of the 406?

875 is excellent..!!
My highest ever was 720 and that was in my Hdi90, round town only. I now get just 620 in my 2.2 ( 185,000 miles ) but that is work in progress.... I can't fill the tank to the brim cos anything over £75 just pi$$es diesel out over the floor

Re: 875 miles on 75ltrs of diesel. Is that good?
I've only bettered 875 three times in 185 tanks, and my best is 915 which came out at 64mpg. Best mpg is 68.88, but that was only over 40 litres, so not a complete tank.
The 110 certainly should be better than my 90 because 5th is longer on the 110. However, I've read that the Siemens version of the 90 is a more advanced system than the older Bosch, so maybe I have some advantage from that.
Following a wagon at 56 is a good plan, if you have the patience. You don't be to be very close -- well over a wagon's length, which gives you more than adequate thinking distance. Coaches are better as they travel at 60 to 65, but if there are a lot of wagons about then they slow down and speed up a lot which eliminates the benefits.

Oh, well if we're getting into that game then I'll play: dual mass flywheel

Re: 875 miles on 75ltrs of diesel. Is that good?
Hi thanks for all your comments. To be honest I wasn't even looking for a new car, coming from.a mk3 golf 1.9 non turbo I needed something with a few more creature comforts n saw this one for sale mega cheap with good history n fairly clean n only one owner from new. A few probs to start with was the engine had a massive oil leak ( which I think is why it was cheap) which turned out to be a simple fix which was an oil filler cap. Front electric Windows didnt work which was the switch. All working fine. The only niggle with it is the rear brakes grab a little n the air con has a leaky pipe.
Iam pretty happy with it give it an oil change every now n again. Stripped the egr yesterday n Its clean as a whistle which is a good sign.
Very happy with 875 miles that is 85% motor way n the rest town.
Would anyone recomend blanking off the egr or is that asking for trouble.

The EGR is easily disabled by pulling off and bunging the rubber vacuum supply tube that goes to the control solenoid valve.
You should notice better throttle response, it's not such a bitch to drive before it's warmed up, and after a couple of changes the oil should be cleaner.
My feeling is that if you're doing short journeys in cold weather then leave it since it helps warm up the engine and heat the cabin.
