tyres
Sorry another tyre question,
Is anyone on here running on blizarks.
I got 4 fitted recently and so far they've been a waste of money
Good and grippy but there noisy.. the car sounds like a 4x4 with them on
There all year rounders, mud/rain. Snow/summer jobbies .
Anyone else had problems with these bridge stone
Are they crap :-)

Re: tyres
The yoyo has Blizzaks on it, I can't say they're confidence-inspiring but the car is quite heavy. It does indeed sound like it's got 4 wheel bearings in imminent need of changing with them on. They are proper snow tyres, so you'll eat them if you try to run them through summer.
For summer tyres it has another set of Bridgestones, I can't remember which but they're crap and it wanders all over the place on the motorway, it feels like the tracking's well out (it's been checked) and never quite self-centers, which it does with the noisy snow tyres, before you ask. Worse still, they're approaching the end of their life so they're only going to get worse, unfortunately I just can't afford to replace them early, so I'm going to have to suffer it for another year
On the other hand I have Bridgestones on the bike, which have bneen excellent and still performed last year despite being well past their sell by date.
Glib summery: Bridgestones for bikes - excellent. Bridgestones for cars - garbage.

Re: tyres
Did you ever try?
Ah yes, Bridgestones, they have a reputation for never wearing out because they have no grip whatsoever

Re: tyres
Well, no but I just thought once you leave the tyre place you're on your own, like
Although I suppose if they're removed pretty quick then the next punter isn't going to notice

Re: tyres
Bridgestones are generally considered very good. Up till 1-2 years ago they were fitted as OEM on the Ford range. RE05A's were pretty good on the Mondingo when I had it

Re: tyres
I had Bridgestone SO2's allround on my bmw and i'm sure they were made of wood, hard a nails and as noisy as buggery, they perished quicker than a week old banana, changed to goodyear asymmetricals and the car was transformed.

Re: tyres
My first job when I left school was at a tyre wholesaler & over the years I've probably had every brand of tyre going on my cars & I can honestly say I've been happier with budget tyres than I ever have with premium brands. Most of the budget brands are made from the old moulds & tread patterns from the premium brands & many were even subsidiaries of the bigger names. Can't nail any particular faults on specific brands as they all had different ones, but just to give an idea I had noisy Michelins, Continentals that were fantastic in the wet, but really poor in the dry & Pirellis that were the opposite of the Continentals.
Admittedly I couldn't make any sort of comment on longevity of any of them as I've had such a varied range of cars over the years & I don't think I've ever changed a set of tyres on a car more than once. I know there's a whole safety angle of your tyres being the only thing that keeps you on the road so don't skimp, but I've always had cheap & cheerful whenever I've bought tyres (& never resorted to remoulds or part worns) & never had any issues because of it.
In all honesty, if you're that worried about the safety of your passengers doesn't it make more sense not to drive like a twat & try to find the absolute grip limit in the first place?

Re: tyres
Ah, this old chestnut.
From experience: I want a matched pair on the front, and I'm happy with my Michelin Energies. I had a set of Kumhos on before; they were more predictable at the limit, and they didn't last long.
Like Stuart says: if you're that worried then drive more carefully.
I like the new rating system as used, e.g., on Black Circles. It's surprising how some of the 'cheapo' tyres have respectable ratings. What's also noticeable is that Michelin Energy have the top performance rating for 'wet grip and braking', contrary to what I'd been told.
Some people get very upset if you even mention part worn tyres. The argument against is basically that you don't know where they've been, right? I can appreciate the argument, but I really don't understand why the strong feeling.

Re: tyres
I mainly put designer branded tyres on my car because of the longletivity.
I was putting budgets on the Focus and struggling to get 6k out of the fronts and 10k out of the rears.
I fitted a set of Falken ZE912's and got 12k out of the fronts and 20k out of the rears.
I then fitted Goodyear NCT5's on the car and got 20k out of the fronts and sold the car with the rears less than half worn after 20k!
And my car feels so much better with branded tyres!
I had 1 runway Enduro fitted to the rear of my Mondeo for about a month, it sounded like a bloody wheelbearing had gone it was that much noisier than the other 3 on the car
