Well have you tried to get a baby seat, 13year old and a 3 year old baby seat in back of a 406?

Dont want to sell but got no choice, least its got full mot and 6 months tax and is in quite good condition.
Being looking for decent 7 seater estate Hdi, but they like rocking horse poo

So its 4x4 time, or worse people carrier time (now i know im old).

So if anyone spots a Ford Maverick 5 door, Nissan Terrano (Yes i know same car) or SSANGYONG MUSSO Diesel 5 door for 2-2.5k M - R reg let us know.

As far as the car goes, you can buy the 7 seater conversion for the estate, they pop up on eblag from time to time....

If you're intent on a 4X4 have you considered getting a LWB Mitsubishi Pajero (Shogun) freshly imported from Japan. Should be able to get an M reg for 2.5K and it'll have a great spec and absolutely no rust. There's a 2.5 and a 2.8 TD (and a 3L petrol I think). The 2.8 is much stronger but you'll struggle to get 20 mpg out of it, the 2.5 should get closer to 25. Only 1 word of warning though, get under there with the underseal because some of them never had any underbody protection, didn't need it, but 1 British winter and it'll rot like hell if you don't get it protected .

Also there are some decent 7 seater Land Rover Discoveries around now for that kind of money, but be very careful because they're prone to rot.

Yeah bin looking around at all sorts, LWB Mitsubishi Pajero (Shogun) are good motor but from what iv heard costly to run. And as i do 100 miles a day to and from work i want something up in the 35's. Musso with merc 2.9 engine just about makes it.

Trouble is resale on pug not great, getting offered next to nothing for mine, yet they selling for 1000+
Just been offered £600 over phone, lol now its not mint but out of 10 id say 7/8. Thinking not going to bother with px might just stick it in paper for 1000 inc sony stereo and £250 engine chip. Hell 12months Mot and 6 months tax, new battery, glow plugs MAF unit etc, lol id buy it

As for the estate 7-seat kit, does it come with inertia seatbelts? IIRC the models that had it factory fitted have the seatbelts located in the same panel as the conventional rear seats so I wouldn't have thought a 3rd party kit would be quite so good in the safety department unless it involved a lot of work to fit...

Can't remember TBH mate, but I'm not so sure that the ones I saw were 3rd party items, more likely original items out of write-offs or whatever. IIRC someone has said on here previously that you can buy all the necessary bits to do the conversion from the dealers, dread to think what that would cost though

Actually I don't like the idea of any of these cars (or small people carriers or 4X4s) with seats in the boot, never fancied sitting my kids in the crumple zone .

C'mon, the boot of a 406 estate is probably a safer place to be than say the passenger seat in a Punto/Ka/Micra Also sitting backwards is the best place to be in a front-end collision since the human body can sustain about twice as high G forces that way!

Having said that, Those seats really don't look comfortable at all!

Tell you what though the kids would love those seats! Anything unusual appeals to them doesn't it? Imagine sitting facing backwards with an uninterrupted view of the van driver behind you picking his nose while they make rude gestures and whisper rubbish that the parents can't quite hear - Bliss! That's even better than getting the front seat upstairs on a double decker bus - Even got their own wiper!

All very valid points, yeah iv gone of the idea of estate, thought of my lad in that space dont seem right.

As for chip and ragged!

Didnt buy chip to rag car, its never been flat out and only red lined in 3rd gear once. Chip lets engine run better at lower revs in my case, yes there is more power if needed but i like the way it pulls from lower revs in town, eg can stay in 4th 30 mph and engine is happy, not like before chip when would have to be in 3rd. Cant remember last time engine went over 3500 rpm. But i do see your point, you would have to expect car has been ragged.

Looking at possibility of keeping the pug and running a second car, older ppl carrier.
pug for work (motorway miles), and carrier for family around town. They still bloody expensive even for older ones.

Sounds like a good plan - lower maint costs with the 406 bearing the grunt of the higher mileage, likely lower fuel costs (bet petrol people carriers are a lot cheaper?), and most importantly you won't have to breath in the stench of baby sh*t/puke on your way to work every morning!
