MOT..What do you do

Post by scotty73 »

Squeeky bum time is coming up sometime mid July so I'll book it in for late June, thing is i know i got at least 1 drop link gone   so not sure if i should just change both now (already have one in the shed) or leave it go through the mot like it is... Part of me is saying get them down now but the other part (thelazy side) is saying leave it because knowing your luck you'll have to strip it all back down anyway.

What do you lot do?

Is there anything else you think needs doing is the question?

If its just the drop links then do it.

But if there is other doubts then wait and see what the tester says....

I always just put it in for the MOT as is,obviously check the basics, lights, wipers, tyres etc but I find it more cost effective to let them tell me what needs doing as in the past I've spent money changing stuff that would have probably gone through.

I tend to take care of the obvious stuff first and then take a chance on the rest, you might just get advisories which'll give you some time to sort it later.

The amount of people that shove cars through the MOT with blown bulbs, dodgy wipers etc is shocking - you should at least do the basics yourself.

One thing I always do is make the car *very* clean beforehand, never done me any harm.

Got to be honest i put the 406 through last year with a blown headlight bulb and a number plate bulb :supafrisk: but I'm going to be a bit more organised this year I've got a month to sort things out... Just not sure i want to be jacking the car up twice if I'm honest.

I tend to give my car its yearly wash and hoover, scrub the door frames too.

I then check the obvious stuff like tyres, lights, washers etc - then I plug all the seatbelts into the buckles - makes it look like you've given it a ' proper ' look over.

Finally, I put a gun wrapped in a bloody rag under the passenger seat and knuckle dusters or nun-chucks in the drivers door card, flew through last MOT..!! :supafrisk:

That, to me, would look like the car has been to another MOT tester beforehand and failed and you're there for a second opinion; meaning the tester will be suspicious of a hidden fault and be even more vigilant :|

I do general checks as others, bulbs, wipers etc. Also give it an oil and filter change as it's usually due anyway around MOT time.
Just wish my MOT was in July and not Feb. Laying under the car is snow is now fun:(
