I've picked up fresh oil, air and oil filters for the other half's car today and thought I'd double check the procedure for the air filter change as it's a bit of a git (1.6 HDI engine).

There is a decent how to on you tube and judging from the comments it takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours to change the air filter!!!

I'll be trying to shave a big chunk off that but not rushing it at the same time. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to locate the air filter behind the engine against the bulkhead?

If anyone knows of any easy time saving tips PLEASE!!!! let me know

I bet those filters never get overlooked or forgotten, after all who would want to miss out on all that 'fun' ?

Well, the air filter change is a bit long winded, but up to 2 hours to replace is a bit silly, 40 minutes or so, yes.

One thing about the wipers, when you get the nuts off, unless you have a puller, press down with the palm of your hand where the pivot point is and wiggle the wiper arm to release it, you may need to do it a couple of times.

Do the oil filter change whilst all the pipework is dismantled and fit the oil filter into the filter housing first turning the filter until the spigot is located properly.....use a rag around the filter housing before you remove the filter housing, also use something to catch the oil from it, it will overflow.

I've already been warned about oil spillage and packing as much rag around the filter housing as possible.
My plan is to let the sump drain while I remove all the gubbins to get at the filter housing then do the oil filter when all the stuff is out of the way to make any mopping up more accessible.

When you see what a performance a simple air filter change is it makes you wonder if dropping the engine off it's mounts would be a quicker way to access the housing!!!

The car is a little sluggish and a touch more thirsty than it should be which I've always put down to a slightly blocked DPF but it's not much of a stretch to say that the filter may have been in there a while and is probably pretty nasty.

The only positive is that it's all straightforward just very, very, very long winded, can't wait to spend an hour on the drive on Saturday in the baking sun.....honest!!
