5...4...3...2...

Post by steve_earwig »

A strange thing happened to me earlier, I pulled up to the traffic lights at the top of the high road and then I noticed some numbers in red counting down, down from 5 to zero, then the lights turned amber, then green and then it was counting down in green from 45. I took a quick pic on my way home:

Is it me or is this mad?

I know there are times when the driver at the front is asleep or something but is this an encitement for grand prix starts and people flooring it because they can see the lights approaching zero as they approach but surely this isn't what traffic lights are about?

5...4...3...2...1 GO!!! Oops, there's an old lady on my bonnet.

There's plenty of scope to have some fun with the rush hour traffic if you're the man with access to the countdown though.

5...4...3...2...45...44...

Then watch all their heads explode in frustration waiting for the green light.

I expect that the numbers should be for the pedestrians
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

Sadly that was where the wife's boss' son was run over and crippled and his girlfriend was killed by some thug in a taxi - too true to be funny I'm afraid.

Saw quite a few of these in Spain and Andorra last summer, (though they were pointed at the pedestrians). I agree it's barmy doing this for car drivers.

In France, the lights just go from red to green with no red+amber as we have in the UK. Seems most people wait for the green, then think about putting it in gear, no traffic light grand prix.

Spotted this the other day on the Royal Parade lights in Plymouth. They were for the pedestrians to tell you how long you had left to cross.
And all the dear old ladies took not a bit of notice of any of it. Bless.

Bloody forigners

Yes, that is rather thoughtless and inconsiderate. What doesn't help is the fact that a British 2p coin (worth around 17 lipa) will in fact run a Lidl trolley. Would you walk across an asfalt inferno to save 17 lipa? Especially if you'll never be there again...
