Re: ford mondeo
My car knowledge is limited, as most womens is, but I would be doing pulley, tensioner, belt and water pump all at the same time - Might as well when you've taken it all apart.. (Unless it's had the belt, or chain as Fords use? done recently?)john170277 wrote:hi can anyone on here give some advice on a mondeo tdci been on there forum had no replies in a week

Theres a moderator here with a Mondeo so I am sure he will pop up soon and reply in greater detail and I am sure he can help you much more than I can...
Of course, I may be talking absolute rubbish of course, never dealt with a Ford myself...

Re: ford mondeo
Never had a TDCi, but when I was looking into them I remember seeing that a rumbling noise was often the first sign of a failing DMF, but think it was also accompanied by starting issues. Might be worth checking the state of the clutch & DMF before dismantling the belts.
As far as a DIY belt change goes, I've not heard any horror stories in particular.

Re: ford mondeo
If it is down to a pulley, check the alternator driveshaft if yours has that type of system...there is a driveshaft driven by the aux belt that connects to the alternator as it is inboard of the engine.....i've had a few failures of those.
If yours has the stretch type belts fitted you will not have a tensioner and the belts will need to be cut off to remove them.
It all depends on the year of your car which system is fitted.

The tensioners are a p.I.t.a to change on the mondeos.

Re: ford mondeo
the rumbling is coming from os front of car where the tensioner pulley is so that's what I thought it was
the clutch is fine no issues with starting either
looks like you have to take the top engine mount of to do it though which could be a ball ache

Re: ford mondeo
Yeah your right mate, you have to take the engine mount off.

Re: ford mondeo
can`t fault it it drives well quick good on fuel its just this problem I don`t think it`s the charging the battery to good cos every so often the battery's flat when it runs its charging at 14 volts so will probably need a new battery as well
