MOT advisory
Just passed mot, third in a row with no issues, and received two advisories.
1. Undertrays fitted obscuring some underside components.
2.Engine covers fitted obscuring some engine bay components.
So what is going to happen when a car with fully enclosed bays go for the mot?
Discuss.

Re: MOT advisory
its a common advisory item now,.
altho iconsider it as just stupid. its away of Mr mot tester saving himself from inspecting brake pipes etc
normaly says something like - Engine cover fitted preventing full inspection of engine blah de blah on the ones ihad.
ithink your mot tester is not very keen

Re: MOT advisory
Theyre not allowed to remove anything.
so what they carnt see they carnt fail.
so iguess by them adding the advisory is there way of a disclaimer ,incase by chance car decides to burst a brake pipe/piss oil out
aday after test.

Are mot testers still allowed to open doors?

Re: MOT advisory
I strongly suspect that under all those engine covers are a family of mice and a large wheel...it gets around new EU emissions regs!!!

Re: MOT advisory
it's not the mot testers fault they are told they are not allowed to remove covers to check under them.

Re: MOT advisory
If the engine bay is like that from factory, then they shouldn't write this in as an advisory. Either that, or allow them to remove the undertrays to perform the inspections.davew wrote:it's not the mot testers fault they are told they are not allowed to remove covers to check under them.
Imagine trying to explain that to the person you're selling your car to. Will they really believe you? In my mind, that advisory lowers the value of your car.

Re: MOT advisory
removing engine trays would cause all sorts of problems, half of all engine trays i've seen have missing bolts and fasteners, held on with zip ties ect , the mot testers would then be held accountable if anything goes wrong or they can't get them back on properly.
i agree it's a bit of a problem as there could be a brake pipe under there that is a about to burst and they won't see it.
