Mobile phone help

Post by trem1 »

After lots of pestering i'm upgrading my phone from a Samsung Galaxy S (yep the first one) to a Samsung Galaxy s3 mini, what i want to know is how is best/safest way to transfer all my contacts etc over without losing any information. The last time i changed phones i lost information (Ie home phone numbers) cos i just exported everything to simcard and put that in the new phone.
How can i avoid this from happening again ??

Enable bluetooth on both of them. Pair them up. Then go into your address book and send your contacts via Bluetooth. It should be possible to transfer them all that way, preserving all of the information (SIM card phone book entries only have a "name" and "number" field, and even the name is limited to a low number of characters)

Open the contacts app on the phone,

Menu | Import / Export | Export to SD card

Put the SD card in the new phone and do the reverse to import them on the new one.

If you want to sync more than just the contacts then installing Kies (horrible as it is) on a PC and backing up your phone data will allow you to then apply that data to the new phone.

Personally I'm a Nokia man and they have a handy 'transfer my data' setting which works for Nokia to Nokia, check if your Samsung does the same as it's quick and easy.

Every time I've tried to copy contacts over I've ended up with two of everyone or none at all

Last time I had to do this I asked my 15 year old Son to MANUALLY type in the whole address book (about 95 people, work phone!) and it took about 10 minutes

thats why i hate getting a new phone, ive got over 300 contacts in there and can't afford to lose any, i normally write them all down and put them in manually after losing everything a few years ago.

The very nice lady in my local Vodafone shop had a plug in gadget that copied all my contacts and pictures from my nokia to my new Samsung. Took her about 5 minutes and I still have them all on the old phone.
