Hella - OE quality??

Post by gumby6371 »

As planet is telling me I have a naffed MAF sensor I contacted a supplier we use at work (cheaky discount time) and he said he can get me a Hella MAF for just over £70.
Compared to the VDO/Siemens its not a bad price (about £65 more than I wanted to spend) but are they the same quality?
I have heard of the brand obviously but mainly in relation to lighting and not sensors, the guy told me they only supply OE quality or better but he would say that wouldn't he.

Anyone have experience of Hella sensors?

I've heard bad things about using non-OEM MAFs (& sensors in general for that matter). How much is the VDO/Siemens one at Pug at the moment?

ECP were doing the VDO one for £80 a while back but it appears to have gone back to £115 :(

Hella are a good make and I wouldn't think twice about using any of their parts!

When I was growing up with 'new fangled' cars I was always told to replace MAF's and Lambdas with genuine original parts, the reason being to protect the fuel economy. Imagine if your economy dropped by 3mpg it'd cost you a fortune in real terms and all for the sake of spending a few extra quid in the first place.

Didn't we say once that equivalent Citroen OE spares are cheaper?

If price is an indicator of quality then the Hella part is very near the VDO one, due to the amount of money we spend they let me have the odd bit for my own use at pretty much trade price.
Ordered it now so fingers crossed, if I get an extra few MPG's and it should pay for itself in 6 months or so.

Prices for stuff I've looked up come up the same on citroen service and peugeot servicebox for the same part no

Hmm wonder if they share parts DBs... off to look up a citroen bumper on servicebox... and it comes up with the part under "parts association" and needs a login to get further. I'll put that down as a 'yes' then

Hella do supply many parts to OE production lines ~ just not necessarily that to Peugeot.... good products as far as I know
