I had a mechanic look at the strut and he told me the bearing was ok, i put it into the car, all went fine, went to put the brake disk on and then realised its from a 3 stud car, mine is a 4 stud. f*ck got said a few times.
This was then removed, i waited until the next day, and went to the breakers yard with my original strut with the bent steering linkage, their strut with the completely ruined bearing and was given a replacement one, took it back and realised it was for the drivers side, went back and finally got one that suited my car, I gave the breakers yard their strut and kept my original one which still a good spring and strut top bearing, it was as well i kept this.
I refitted the "finally correct" strut just as it was from the breakers yard, and just as i was finishing off i snapped the bolt when tightening the strut top nuts, i was using a torque wrench it was clicking away at me but i had a bit of a headache, was tired and just not thinking, f*ck and many of its relatives in that scale of the english language were shouted after this happened. All out again, swapped the spring and strut top off the original strut onto the "finally correct" one and finally put it back onto the car, got my cousin to line up the steering on his lift. Wheel back on and job done.
Some issues that remain are the anti roll bar clamp bolts, the original ones dont fit the euro car parts replacement, i actually snapped one, and had to drill out the hole, a pair of tensile bolts will be required but there is a place up the road specialised in "fastening solutions". And the metal cover that sits over the lower ball joint was rusted, i cut a bit of tin and shaped it by beating it with the hammer into a dome shape, drilled a hole through it and it seems to cover the ball joint rubber in the same way as the other side, are these needed to pass an MOT?
The car is driving straight, no funny noises, its not looking to dive to one side or the other. Ive only had it on the farm but it seems like a good solid car. Ive went to the local DVA office, it needs a VIC test, then the log book needs to be applied for, it will need an MOT, then its ready to be taxed, and put on the road.

And flogged? It'd be nice to see you make a tidy profit on it, not least to pay you for all the work that's gone into itlozz wrote:then its ready to be taxed, and put on the road.

Psst, fancy a crack at this one? http://www.gebrauchtwagen.at/detailansi ... ug=3992699

Re: Bought a 106
I think my sister is looking a small runabout, she's at university doing nursing and needs a car for her placement she doesn't seem too disgusted with the idea of being seen driving a blue 106.
As for that coupe i think id rather break it for parts if the currency converter is right £830 seems a bit steep for a coupe in that condition, but i suppose 93k miles isn't too many on that engine.

Fair enough, you'll be saving her a bundle

No need for dark glasses and a false moustache thenFarmerPug wrote:she doesn't seem too disgusted with the idea of being seen driving a blue 106.

Me and my mate Goran are actually thinking about importing cars to do just that, we were wondering what the prices were like in Austria seeing as how it's just next door but obviously they're no cheaper that Croatia, and then there's all the documentation we'd need to import them, by the time we get that sorted and pay all the stupid charges it really would be pointless. I went with him yesterday to pick up 2 doors for his Pickarsehole, 200 quid the pair which was amazingly cheap compared to all the other places he'd called in Croatia. He was telling me he'd seen one in Slovenia, complete car but rolled, for 300€, which seems a bit more reasonable. I said let's do it but unfortunately he needed these quick because his MOT ran out and they won't pass him with 2 mangled doors here. Or 2 doors the wrong colour come to thatFarmerPug wrote:As for that coupe i think id rather break it for parts if the currency converter is right £830 seems a bit steep for a coupe in that condition, but i suppose 93k miles isn't too many on that engine.

Re: Bought a 106
Its been a while, the 106 hasn't really got much attention after i bought the 305.
My grandpa has got fed up sitting at home without a car, a disadvantage of where we live is that a car is necessary to go anywhere, so stated asking about the 106.
The car got its headlights aligned yesterday which was necessary after all the fiddling done with the headlights, it didn't need washed underneath as it was remarkably clean with very little dirt or rust to speak of, it drove to the MOT centre without any issues and the steering seems to be perfect even though it hasn't been aligned profesionally. It passed the test, and a years tax was put on it.
Its been quite a while since it had a tax disk or mot in the windscreen:

The bodywork is still different colours for the bumper and wing, and the mirror was changed after the forklift incident cracked the glass, it needs the outer shell painted, but the car is mechanically perfect and i have left it with my grandpa if he wants to get it resprayed my cousin up the road is able to sort it out.

In the end then the 106 has cost £668 in parts, the car cost me £297 so in total £965. It definatley doesn't make business sense to buy an old 106 and fix it up, but at least it has saved a good car from being scrapped.
