I'm 43 and I too was very impressed with his work, very talented.

Unfortunately it is very common for talented actors to become depressed when not in the spotlight, they thrive on attention and performing, take that away and they loose a lot of themselves. I guess in that way it didn't come as a massive surprise to me but also look at the world of celebs now......drugs, crime, scandal, lies......is it any wonder that when one of these people pop up on the news most of us just 'tut' and carry on with what we were doing i.e. being normal decent people.

Manic-depressive, on drugs most of his early days (he survived, John Belushi didn't, something I think he was always depressed about). Tears of a clown? Although I just saw they reckon he had Parkinson's coming too, that can't have been good. Or maybe he just woke up one morning and realised he made Mrs Doubtfire.

Hey, Lauren Bacall just died too, before that James Garner (and it was only reading the obits I realised what a great guy he was), Patrick Moore (ditto), Dora Bryan, Tommy Ramone, Johnny Winter...
