What do you use as an alarm clock?

Post by Welly »

Bear with me but we're just doing our Sons Bedroom up whilst he's away at Uni and discovered his Clock Radio was knackered.

So we started looking for a new one and were surprised there was so little choice and how expensive they are now :?

Just got me thinking, are Clock Radios old fashioned now or something? I think it's good to be able to see the time during the night. And waking up to easy-listening radio is good for me.

Maybe people use their Phones or something?

I use a combination of my mobile, her in doors and a 5 month old baby. All seem to work in getting me outa bed when I don't want to.

I reckon everyone is using their mobile phones now, so alarm clocks (and watches, apart from the "look at me!" types) are dying a death.

I mustard mitt t'wife is a morning person so she usually wakes me up. Not that I have much need to get out of bed at the crack of dawn these days but I like to get up fairly early, otherwise it seems like I've wasted half the day.

T'wife does indeed use a mobile phone as an alarm but she usually wakes up before it anyway. Actually, for a while the cat used to wake her up by knocking the phone off the shelf above her bed onto her head. At one point she didn't even bother to set an alarm but I asked her how would that sound at work if she turned up late because the cat forgot...

For many years I had a digital job to wake me up, I hated it so much that even today the "bee-bee-bee-beep, bee-bee-bee-beep" makes me feel ill when I hear it on tv or whatever.

The last alarm clock I bought (from Lidl  ) was a clock-radio, I only really bought it because, at the touch of a button, it used a lazer to display the time on the ceiling. I soon fond out it was useless though as we have so many power cuts here, they do have back-up batteries in them but that soon went flat and the time wandered about anyway.

Interesting so far, I'm just a bit surprised no-one can see the time if they wake in the night, maybe that's a bad thing to see? I mustard that I normally wake up about 30 mins before the alarm and then feel pissed off knowing it's nearly time to rise.

I'm still waking up at 04:30 this week after the stupid 1hr clock-change

Usually my cats wake me at 4am because they want food. With the clock change its now 2:30-3am.
I think I'm going to start locking them in the kitchen at night. There's a cat flap in the kitchen!

I do have an alarm clock by the side of the be though.

I've got an ancient clock radio I still use - it has two time settings so I use 6:04 weekdays and 8:15 weekends, (I just do, OK?)

Also use the alarm function on my phone, to make sure I don't just turn the alarm off.

I use my phone. I have it connected to my docking station so when it goes off I will be inclined to get up and go to the end of my bedroom to turn it off. I also have my cats like Bailes said waking me up very early. Unfortunately I have to get up at around 3:30-4:00 for work purposes!

We put the Cat (and his new friend it seems) out at night time, the big cat used to scratch at the kitchen door at night.

I made an insulated house in the Garden for him which he sleeps in and the other new cat sleeps on a blanket in a box in the Shed.

My one tabby cat likes to sleep in my Volvo s60. I leave the sunroof open in the garage so the car does not get that mouldy smell, then he likes to climb through the sunroof and sleep on the back seat. [emoji2]

We use one of those "wake-up" lights that come on gradually 15 minutes before it starts playing some tune - either radio or some song-bird thing. Used in conjunction with an alarm on the phone. And the yelling cat.

May I suggest...

I have a small cube shaped radio that came from tesco, it plays the radio when the alarm goes off, but i also set my phone to the the same time, but ive been at my job about 6 months now and have just got used to waking up at 7 in the morning. One problem with the alarm clock is that i have it sitting on a shelf above my bed, the wires plug into the wall below the bed and on a few occasions ive pulled the cable and had the clock tumble onto my head, that is very effective at waking one up.

What about a Teasmade, they are a delightfully quaint sort of contraption but it would be interesting to know the sort of person who actually wakes to the sound of boiling water:

Normally I don't bother with an alarm, ever since the kids were small we've got very used to being up early, the wife's always up before me too, so she'll wake me.

I do still have a clock - radio alarm though, mostly for the digital clock that I can watch like a hawk when I'm unable to sleep. It does come in handy for the rare occasion when I need to be up before the wife.
