Changed and made it colourful :-)

Post by Ady1985 »

Got the climate control and mfd screen changed, just rest of buttons and dials to do

Image

And ideas on the mfd as can barely make it out and missing some pixels, anyone know anyone who can repair these sat nav screens? Or anyone have a good one for sale?

Lines across the mfd is a common problem with the screen as it ages. It's a fault with the way the flat ribbon cable attaches to the glass conductive area.
Some attempts to repair the ribbon cable have been tried, some with short term success, some with complete disaster.
As far as I'm aware, they're not repairable....even companies that supposedly specialise in the repair of these screens have shyed away from them.

Good ones are pretty rare on the second hand market and would probably have a short life anyway due to their age,

Can the brightness be reduced on yours to make it more legible? It looks a bit 'flooded' in the pic.

Brightness all the way down and even tried negative setting, gonna try some window tint on plastic in front of the leds to see if it calms it down a little as was readable with original leds in

This one's just appeared on EBay, but as you can see, it already shows some failing pixels.

No, sorry - I gave mine to Eric to wave his magic wand over ( well, fit a fan on it ) and its now in my GLX. I kept this type C as it looks nicer than the type B - even though my type B is fine.

Someone on the coupe forum had a friend who successfully restored one, but I think it may have been a one off... :(

Keep looking though, and always get a picture of one working before bidding.

P.S. how did you change the LEDs, I quite like the blue.....

Hahahaha fiddly job but with the right gear it's all good and simple, the mfd is getting not so bright leds in to see if that helps and some more plastic behind screen to soften down the glare to see if that makes it readable, been looking at indiglo kits for the speedos but as it has bulbs in the dials may just wet and dry the orange off the back of the faces and put led bulbs in there

WOW
That's just brilliant: both the skill to do it and the final effect. Those dials wouldn't look out of place in a Jag.
