anyone used the air-con top up can's?

do they work or are they awaste of money'.

thought id try it but..ithought id ask if anyones tried it first

halfords said theyd refill it..but ive only just got my car fixed of all its niggles..and idont want them under the bonnet..

I think it will work in some cases if your just a bit low on refridgerant, i remember watching an ETCG video and he recommends putting oil into the system, another thing was he used a proper set of gagues to ensure the system didnt get overfilled.

There is some refrigerent left in it..but not enough for it to fire up,

Overfill? yeah thats a good point..the company selling these can's claim there is enough to completly fill it..but ihave my doubts 1 small can is enough,

Itried out one of these cans today,
after talking to chap in there..who was actualy allthere..and knew what he was talking about.
after him saying if it dont work.. he will refund -ithought sod it ..its worth agamble.

i fired the stuff in and the air-con came to life. (it was almost empty)

the can's have enough in them to fill the system from empty..there was a fair bit left too.

*only con isee is they give the £10 quid refund for an empty can. (ibet a fair few people send em back with alot left in the can.

I know the refrigerant capacity on the 2.2 petrol is 625g, I believe it's slightly more on the 3.0 and slightly less on the 2.0, so completely filling the system with a single can is not outside the realm of possibility. Modern systems have a lot less refrigerant in them than old-style systems.

Ive checked it again today..with the Gauge..And its not lost any.
Igot lucky a s'pose..

For anyone else using this..id mark it up as a Gamble..as you've no way of checking for leak's.
* its more or less best used to top -up a Good working system that is just low..

Ididnt expect it to get Mine working..as the Compressor was not cutting in., (too low)


FWIW. its expensive as you have to pay a £10 deposit for the tin..plus buy the Gauge seprate.
So..it might work out cheaper for kwik fit or Halfords to use there Machine to check for leaks and fill it..

(*if you trust them to lift the bonnet/idont.)

The last time i got the air con sorted in the 406 it was a man who services the cooling systems on my uncles mushroom yard, he doesnt advertise the fact he can recharge car systems but keeps all the kit in his van, it only cost £20, it might be worthwhile looking for an industrial air con specialist they might check do the job a bit cheaper.
