Re: Buying a 405
I had one exactly the same as this on a P Plate as my second ever car back in 2002. Only 5 years old when I got it but it had been a Taxi and done 200,000 already. Kept it for 5+ years and added another 70k before selling it on. Lovely lovely car.

I loved mine too, the seats were like chumfy velour armchairs, could sit in them all day. It was also bloody fast and really torquey for a pez engine.

Re: Buying a 405
I charged up the battery, put it into the 405 and its running the very best, ive been spoilt with 5 years of HDi ownership you forget all about waiting for the glow plug light to go out, the 405 just doesnt start until it goes out, it makes a good plume of black smoke and quietens down to a reasonably quiet idle, i havent got a chance to drive it around the yard, the door of the mushroom house fell over in the wind and its strapped into place until i get a repair.
The 405 does appear to have marked its territory, it looks like it could be the crankshaft pulley oil seal, coming from that general direction.
