Re: Top Gear's back this Sunday 25th Jan
I read that they were currently discussing how best to release the final 2 or 3? episodes (since they've been made) it's just how to present them from the Studio each week? I wonder if Richard and James would be happy to carry on without?
There was some rumor of Chris Evans replacing him - good luck with that
Tis a shame though, end of an era and all that. I can only wish the presenters good luck and wherever JC ends up I will definitely be watching.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of an uproar about the TV licence soon, that has got to be the most old fashioned principle known to man; especially as you can watch TV via the internet. I would love to sack off the TV Licence, without Top Gear I never watch BBC so why should I pay for it?

Without the license there'd be adverts. Croatian telly, HRT, licence fee and adverts, blah.
I suspect that that's the wrong way of looking at it, or rather, the way they'll keep justifying it, in that the license fee is to pay for actually having a tv and then most/some/very little of that license fee then goes to the BBC.

I dunno, adverts don't bother me with the magic of pausing live TV. When you hear about the BBC selling programmes abroad and all the merchandising that goes on for mucho £££££'s it makes you wonder about the value of the TV License.
Didn't someone contest the License once by basically saying that the BBC had broken rules by not reporting the News 'impartially'. Or something. So they had breached the terms of the TV license in effect and rendered it worthless.
I guess at the end of the day the fact that you have a TV means you are capable of receiving BBC and therefore it is assumed you will watch or benefit* from watching it so need to cough up like everyone else

Re: Top Gear's back this Sunday 25th Jan
TV license is a farce. When my Grandmother moved into a nursing home for her last 18 months I took her TV and set it up in her room, I did what I thought was the right thing and transferred her licence to her new address, hell it was free anyway so no bother to me, right? Then pretty much every time I went to check on her house there was a fresh letter on her mat threatening bailiffs and legal action, the presumption is that because there's no license at that address that you MUST be stealing TV signals. I phoned them several times to inform them that the house was unoccupied and that there was no TV there but the attitude was disgusting, basically accused me of lying, "I need to speak to the license holder...", "really? She's 97 and living in a nursing home. And if you check your records you'll see that she still has a license at that address, so leave her alone!!". One fukwit still threatened to send the bailiffs round "feel free if you want to waste their time cos THERE'S NO-ONE THERE!!". 2 weeks later, another letter... Barstards!
